new Program for *.Mp3 to Desript.ion automatic

Hi everybody!

I took me the time and created my own Program to create Description for *.mp3 files.
it displays:
Artist - Title - Bitrate - Audiomode - Playtime

simply select a starting folder and it goes thru all subfolder and creates new Descript.ion file.
due to i wanted to have bitrate and playtime it takes some time to go thru all files...

 Please deactivate <use OEM for description> in the Menu .   Userinterface in in GERMAN.

Ich habe mir mal die Zeit genommen und mein eigenes Programm für die Erstellung der Descript.ion für MP3 Dateien erstellt.
Es zeigt an Künstler - Titel - Bitrate - Stereo/Mono - Abspieldauer
Einfach das programm starten und das Startverzeichnis auswählen, es geht von dort aus selbstständig durch alle Unterverzeichnisse und erstelle die Descript.ion. Bitte deaktiviere "use OEM for Description" im Menue

Hi there!

as i see, some people allready downloaded my program. I would like to know what you think about it and i would like to know, does it work well or does it crash. Thanks for your opinion/reply. By now I only found 3 or 4 mp3-Errors:

- ID3 Tag is not id3v2: Artist or Titel end with "???" : solution: create new id3 entry with a new program, (some tag editor)
- file could not be opened: Dont know why... (sorry! may be antivirus or timing problem)
- genre only in id3v1 -> Genre is read as a single strange character . solution create also id3v2 tag
I do know this problem and i will fix the genre in id3v1 problem in one of the next releases.
- "auch hier ein kleines Problem" his meens that my program sees a problem in the id3v2 Header, but it can read the file and header. (just for Info)
- actually the program uses much memory, I m checking my purebasic source code to free some more memory.

Question: do foreign charakter work? Kyrillian/Russian? Asia ? please report.

I do have 2 mp3 files that bring my prog to crash... They play in winamp. tags are good, but it crashes..

I tried it on a few folders of mp3. So far, it works fine, but is
a bit slow. Results are as:
"golden_earring-twilight_zone.mp3" Golden Earring - Twilight Zone - 256 kbs - Joint Stereo - Genre: Rock/Pop - Spielzeit: 4:51 min
I like that it gives kbs and time.

I tried your utility.  I'm finding that it sometimes can take a while before it starts doing anything then  once it starts it goes for a while then stops a few times and then continues until it finishes the folder.  If you look at Windows task manager when this is happening, you will find that your utility goes back and forth from running to not responding and can take over a min to process one mp3.   I also notice that if you move the mouse cursor around over the gui, for some reason it starts to get the program going again - sometimes.

I know the user interface is in german and I don't have a problem with that as it is easy enough to figure out what is going on.  But might I suggest one thing in the output - replace the word Spielzeit with Time or better yet don't use anything at all as everyone knows what 4:35 min means.

What would really be great is having a selectable output as everyone doesn't need the same output.  For example, I don't need artist as it appears in the mp3 filename in my system and I don't use genre as I have found most of the time it is wrong to begin with.

I just tested your new version 1.0.1.0.  Excellent update!  Performs faster and doesn't have the stop and starting I was experiencing with your previous published build so that problem appears to be fixed.  Selectable output also appears to be working perfectly.  From what I can tell a good update.  Thanks.

I like the selectable feature.
An improvement overall, but still a few bugs.
Creates .ico file sometimes when its not selected.
Some mp3's it will not work with. (could be due to software used to rip?)
Reports slightly different time and kbs for some mp3's than Winamp. (no great concern)
Runs very slow when only kbs and time are selected.

Using build 1.0.1.1
.ico select is fixed
Slow processing is caused by the nature of vbr files, processes normal size album
with fixed kbs very quickly.
Some of the problems I experienced were due somewhat, to "bad" tags in some of my mp3's.
Fixing those helped alot !

I received some feedback and included them in my program!

Descript.ion is now done for
- MP3-files (selectable)
- Pictures jpg/bmp: dimension (resolution) and color mode
- Movies: dimension video resolution, frames per second, playtime (runtime)

some minor bugfixes (and 3 big ones) included

The runtime (playtime) for movie files (avi) is wrong - sometime close to 1 hour short!  I haven't tested mpg yet.

Final release! version 1.0.1.8

I included the last feedback and now the genre is shown correct on all MP3 Files with ID3 tag version 1.
