Hey There.

Rejetto you work way too hard so I'm going to see if its been done first because its not that important, and you diserve a break as usual (which you never get, congrats on the vacation!).  Is there a way to sticky a file, so regardless of its attributes (type/name/date/how recent it is) it still shows up at the top.  I've been calling them _andthenmyfilename.txt (for example) but is there a way without adding a _ that this can be done. this may be template based as well, i'm not sure.  Using terayon in IE (dont ask about the ie part :)

Yeah, this would be really useful for larger folders where someone's requested or needs a certain file.

You can already do that with the actual behaviour of hfs! and without '_' !

Add a file or a folder aniwhere in your vfs. Then rename it with an initial space in the vfs.

Example:
Code: [Select]
"important.txt' to
Code: [Select]
" important.txt'
So this file or folder shows up in first position (depending only of your vfs-settings 'folders before').

the blank space solution seems to be a good workaround
do we still need an option for it?

Its a good work around for it and I would be happy to use that but eventually I think someone will come and complain that there should be a proper way of making it sticky.

Maybe i could put a fake command "sticky", that displays a hint about the leading blank space.

I think that would be sufficient.

Rejetto, the fake sticky command would be a fine solution. Thanks once again for taking our ideas.

how about making that fake command a real command by renaming the file in the vfs? with permission from the user ofcourse

consider, the extra space will result in a extra %20 in the url

I'm not a friend of fake commands that display hints, because by that way menues grow and grow with stuff that 'simple users' don't understand.

In my opinion it would be better that between various posters we try to establish a common structure and guidelines for a good helpfile, more closely related to hfs than the wiki.

Even if the posters and visitors or the forum show more tecnical interest than the 'simple user', i think we should not forget that the user basis would be formed by people that are perhaps not interested in 'beautiful things' like bandwidth-graphs, download stats etc. They only need a good working personal web-fileserver as hfs is, with a simple way to add files and folders, and a simple way to add useres an give then access rights. They may use it instead of myspace and stuff like that and with better results.

So even we can switch between easy and expert mode, I think the menus will grow to much - let's wait for a better user interface in the style of the options window of user accounts in expert mode, and let a good titeled topic about 'tricks' in the forum, so that interested users may find them easy.

Two things, one is it doesnt have to be called Sticky, it could be called Always on top (might be a little more confusing come to think of it :).. other thing is this will be put under the vfs itself, not in the menu, you will right click a file and chose "Always on top" or "Sticky."  i agree the menu has alot of options and suboptions but the VFS isnt that loaded down, it could definitly be implemented without confusing people imo.

Other opinions?
