When trying to connect to your HFS File Server, you must be running HFS.exe (HFS File Server) on the external machine that you are using to connect to your own HFS File Server.

Wrong.  HFS only needs to be running on the server.  Any PC connecting to your home HFS PC via the internet, connects to you via your external IP address with a browser.  The PC's connecting to your home server from the internet don't have to be running a copy of HFS to make this happen.

When trying to connect to your HFS File Server, you must be running HFS.exe (HFS File Server) on the external machine that you are using to connect to your own HFS File Server.

I kept trying to Log In to my HFS File Server from a friends PC(s) and kept having errors like "page not found" and/or "Oops - Broken Link" and/or many other error messages.  Even though it would be nice to access the HFS File server without having to run HFS.exe on an external PC (but this is not possible).  HFS.exe (HFS File Server) must be running on both machines that you are using.

You seem to be doing something wrong: HFS is a web-server (limited in some sense, but working perfectly as a fileserver!). To connect to your server at home from any place, you can access it with a web-browser in the same way as any other website, without the need to have installed hfs.exe on the client side. I downloaded from your site from a machine that is not running hfs. It think you are simply not writing the address of your home on your firends pc.

As SilentPliz says, hfs is portable, provided you save options to a file, and provided, on the othe pc you place your hfs and data to the same driveletter! Having all on a usbdrive K: on your system, in another system you must ensure that the driveletter assignd is also K: . That's all.

You can show us an example of a link that you have tried?

HFS is portable!
Simply save the options in a file.

How do you bypass security like Windows Vista UAC on a PC which you don't have Administrator Rights on?
You don't. That's the whole point of having security measures.  8)

Accessed the server and downloaded the MP3. 100% fine.

Why do you think this solution worked?

I really don't know.Anyways, is NOT a solution. I can suggest you to try with Firefox 3.0.10. Simply type http://<youripadress>  in the address bar. Make sure your HFS at home is running on port 80. It must work.

I've typed this IP address into Multiple PC's:

97.80.169.177
97.80.169.177
97.80.169.177
97.80.169.177
97.80.169.177
97.80.169.177

And I still get the same error message.  My friends try to access my HFS File Server with my IP address and still get the same error.  I've read the IP address to them and double checked what they enter into their PC's Web Browsers (IE-7 and Firefox 3) and they get the same message.  It wasn't till late last night when one of my friends installed HFS onto his PC that he was able to access my HFS File Server.  Why was my friend able to access the File Server only after installing HFS onto his PC?

Perhaps an error on his part the first time he tried. The fact that this has worked with hfs installed on his PC, seems to be a coincidence.

Well, i think the problem is in your HFS. Tell a friend to download and install HFS. Then you try to connect to his server from a system without HFS installed. If you are able to connect, then something in your HFS is wrong. So you can try to reinstall HFS by zero, resetting all preferences and file system. Eventually you may also consider to change your ISP  ;D

Changing the ISP is not an option.  I never had any problems out of the one I'm using now.  However, I will try the other suggestions you suggested.

Well, I think I may have some information for you.  In one of your first posts in this thread you mentioned you have been getting "Oops - Broken Link" error messages.  I have never heard of such an error message so I decided to google it.  Many, many people have been reporting the same problem as you.  This isn't a HFS problem at all just so you know that.

You are going to have to do some reading and hopefully you will find a solution.

Good luck.

An solution:

In Windows

Click START. Go to RUN. Type in Command. Then OK. When command box appears type after existing text: ipconfig /flushdns (exactly as here). Click ENTER.

Now restart your PC, and reset your router if you have one.

Your dns cache has a corrupt entry for the site you are trying to reach. If you want to see the difference go ipconfig /displaydns before and after flushdns.

welcome mowogo :)
i'm sorry for your problem, but as the "self test", lots of people here, and myself report, your HFS is working perfectly all over the internet.
i'm downloading your mp3 right now.
the problem seems to be related only to those around you. funny.

as maverick noted, that message you got doesn't seem to be the standard message, so i guess that if you find who's giving you that message, you will find the offender. :)

anyway, if you already tried to type the full form
http://97.80.169.177/
then my suggestion to work around your problem is to not use your numerical address, but a name (domain).
you can get one for free at no-ip.com and dyndns.com
you just have to register there.

Thanks.  But, unfortunately I don't use any toolbars in my web browsers.  I label them as spyware/malware.  I don't happened to be entering the IP Address in any toolbar.
