Hi Everyone,

Thank you Rejetto for making such an incredibly useful piece of software. I've been using HFS for two years now and it has worked flawlessly every day it's been in service. Recently, I changed how my network is set up and now I can't get HFS to work how it used to! Can I be helped?

Prior Configuration:
- Windows 2003 Server running HFS and nothing else
- 4 external USB disks directly attached to the server with corresponding drive letters
I had HFS set up so the VFS had Real Folders that pointed to my USB drives. It was a simple, easy setup that required no extra config since the data I was serving was hosted locally to the HFS box.

New Configuration:
- 5TB NAS on same subnet as HFS server
- All data from those 4 external USB drives has been coped to the NAS
- So we have 2 devices: the NAS and the Windows Server running HFS

When I tried to setup folders in the VFS to point to my NAS, it wasn't an option. I created drive mappings on the Windows 2003 box that look like \\IP_ADDRESS_OF_NAS\NAME_OF_SHARE (for example, \\10.0.0.1\Music was mapped to the M:\ drive on the HFS box). I thought that would take care of the problem, but HFS doesn't see these drive mappings when I go to point the VFS folders to them!

So now, I have 4TB of data I'd like HFS to serve, but HFS can't be configured to see the data with a UNC path! Help!!

Technical Info:
- Running HFS build 154
- No permissions are set on the NAS so that HFS has full access
- NAS is fully functional and browsable from box where HFS lives
- Drive mappings function perfectly for every other purpose except pointing HFS to the data

Can HFS see UNC Paths? Can HFS folders point to \\IP_Address instead of just local drives/folders? Rejetto, Save me!!  ;D

It is not necessary to map your share

share a folder (on a computer in your local network: note the name of this computer ;))

start hfs , right-click on the vfs to add a folder from disk

Go through your NetHood and select your shared resource \\COMPUTER_NAME_OF_NAS\NAME_OF_SHARE

(as you do it to create a map with M:\ :D)

into the VFS , only the shared foldername is visible. as a local folder.

It is all : working on my network! ;)
