www browser error with iso files
on:
April 21, 2008, 08:02:45 PM
Hi, im having a strange problem. I have ISO image files on my HFS.
Most of them are about 4.5GIGS in size. Everytime i click on one in IE7 i get "ie cannot display this page" just as if it was a dead link.
If i make the files smaller they work.
Im going to try to determine what size they need to be to work, but in the mean time, any ideas on why this would do this?
thanks
Tony

i just tried a 3.35GIG one and it worked fine. Seems anything above 4GIG might be the problem.
im not using any download managers or anything, just straight IE.
FYI, works fine in Firefox.

HFS Supports files larger than 4gb for a long time now, so the problem is not hfs.
Instead, M$ Internet Explorer has a 4gb barrier set in place. Just use a real browser, like you mentioned, or a download manager and it will work fine.

Strange .. I wasnt aware of IE problem w/ files over 4 g?? just tried it on IE 6 XPSP3 and NO problem.. ( 2 movie ISO's 4.14G and 7.01G) did test on local host -(78mb/s) and LAN- (45mb/s) on other PC.
Maybe it is IE7 or garbage Vi$ta problem.

Its not a Vi$ta
problem.
And to quote maverick from a post January 2007:
What you are experiencing is the limitation of the browser being used. This has been discussed before in the forum. Do a search. If my memory is correct, the limitation for Opera and IE is 2GB and Firefox is 4GB. However, by using a good download manager, you can overcome these limitations.
I DID not know that either

Firefox has no limit anymore since 2.0.0.0.
