I'll try to make this as painless as possible.  Here go's nothing....

1. Open up HFS.
2. Ran self test. Result of self test -- " The test failed: server does not answer. You are behind a router. Ensure it is configured to forward port to your computer."
3. Scream at computer "Why me god!"
4. Ok step 3 didn't really happen.
5. Go the portforward web site.
6. Look for my modem/router. I can't find the one I have? It just says Gateway. All I know is  there are 2 computer hooked up to 1 modem. I'm only trying to use HFS on one computer though.
7. Is lost after that.

In a nut shell that's my problem right now.  I'm not sure what to click once I get there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you should have documentation for your "gateway".
you have to tell it to redirect all things on port X (you decide) to your specific computer (the address is like 192.168.x.x).
try even asking portforward.com to add your router on the list.

Here's an update.....

Self test result: "You are behind a router. Ensure it is configured to forward port 81 to your computer."

Now, it was originally set to port 80. I just put 81 just because. Should I just put it back to port 80 and I'll be good to go?
I found my router/modem so that's all taken care of. I just have this last thing that's hindering me.

set hfs to which ever port your router is configured to forward.

some ISPs block port 80
you may have better luck with 81

Alright........

Went to (Control Panel) then (Advanced) then i highlighted the connection that I use to connect to the internet. Then click (Settings) added HFS to the list. The port that used was 81.

After all said and done, click OK. And then I ran self test....It still says "You are behind a router. Ensure it is configured to forward port 81 to your computer."

I put HFS on port 81. Referring to a few steps back...when I went to the PortFoward site, and tried to set it up...the static IP button didn't work for me. So I guess I HAVE to no choice but to some how get a static IP.

don't need to go far. the "static ip" you have to enter is your local IP. HFS should tell you that IP as soon as it starts, before you do the self test.

the method you described above cannot work, because you specified the port but not your local IP. so it is an incomplete or totally wrong method.

Ok.... I'm at the part were it ask me to type in "IP Port Range." Do I say 80 to 81, or 0 to 81?

I'm using port 81 for HFS. Basically I just have to know what range I should use, and I think I'm good to go.

The ip port range simply tells the router which incoming connection on a port is to be forwarded to the local ip and which port to forward it to.

I think that I may have messed something really easy up.  Right after you put in the port range, next you type in the IP. I typed in the static IP.  Not the 192.168.x.x by mistake.  Now it won't let me go back to that page to edit it.

I screwed my self didn't I? Is there any way to get back to that screen?

your static ip should be the same as the 192.168.xxx.xxx ip or atleast they refer to the same ip which should be the one your computer uses to talk to your router.

You should be able to get back into it the same way you did the first time. When you get back into it can you post a screen shot of the page so we can tell you if it looks like you've entered all the right ports, etc into the right places.
