Idea for the HFS log...

Hey people, my brain output a new idea today.

I know external control of HFS is a long way off...
I am wondering if it would be possible to show the HFS log in the browser, so when we are not home we can just view the log to see what activity has been happening on your HFS. I would expect something that looks like the ~files.lst would work well. Maybe it can link off using ~log.(some extension) and you could see the HFS log in the browser....

You'd need some way to restrict who can view it, for security reasons.

My HFS is set up so that I can see the log when I'm not home.
Its simple. Just have your log saved to a real folder, put the folder in
the root and password it. In my case I make it hidden, and have a link
to it on my "Server Stats" page.
While we can't remote administer yet, my Stats page will let me see some
of whats happening.

Ye, i agree Giant Eagle, and anyway i knew about the log to file, haha wtf was i thinking!, and i just remembered that text files are opened in the browser aswell

 You and the other guys are doing some great work on templates.
 Much can be done just by logical configuration of the vfs. I think we all agree that hfs is
a/the work of (a) genius.
This might interest someone.
Like several others, I use uploaded text files for messaging, and request for account. The list
of these uploaded messages and requests are visable to all, but cannot be read by anyone
other than me, but....
I can read and respond to them when I am away. They are not passworded...yet they are.
Simple. Messages is real folder, browsable, but not download-able, no password, then Messages
folder is added to root again. Warning popup says "Its already there, are you sure", Yes, Messages (1)
is added. Messages (1) is set to download, hidden, and pass-worded.
When a file is uploaded to Messages, it also appears in Messages (1), since it is really the
same folder. I access Messages (1) from my Server Stats page when I'm away, and respond
via Hot Mail or some such, if its urgent.
 Can't say if its expected behavior, but it works for me!

How about Server Stats page as addition to the templates all you guys are developing ?
Server Stats page displays, real time clock, date, graph (wish it was real time), up time,
number downloads running, IP addresses, number of users, speeds, bytes in/out, total hits,
total DL/UpL, etc. Problem is I really don't have a good way to test to see if its accurate.

But including a link to a server stats page would require the user to select and add it themselves in the log. When setting up the template... wouldn't it?

It would be cool if we could have a little batch file or something, some form of executable file, so that we could make some an installer for our templates, would make it uber easy for the users, 1 click easy even

I have such a page set up. Its hfs.diff.tpl inside a folder in the root,
which becomes default file mask for that folder.
I just have no good way to verify that all the %vars% listed in my
previous post are working correctly in it? Or if it gives me correct info
when I go to it when I'm away, and a user is on my server? Is it showing
stats for me, or them?
Anyway, just a thought.
