I just found about this software"HFS 2.0" which I happily installed right away after reading about its features: well what I read was far beyond my expectations:
I can see my files using the HTTP FILE SERVER 2.0, "ON MY INTERNAL NETWORK ONLY" but today I was on another network and I tried to reach my server using HFS 2.0, ' I JUST COULDN'T REACH IT" i GET THE FOLLOWING ERROR MESSAGE:

HFS 2.0
THE TEST FAILED: SERVER DOES NOT ANSWER
YOU MAY BE BEHIND A ROUTER OR FIREWALL:

WELL I BELIEVE THIS IS SELF EXPLANATORY, WILL ANY ONE OF YOU GUYS LET ME KNOW "HOW CAN I GET ACCESS TO MY SERVER WITHOUT MESSING UP WITH MY ROUTER" BUT IF I HAVE TO, i WILL MESS WITH IT.
I HAVE A LYNKSIS WRT54G ROUTER. I READ AND I DID WHAT PORTFORWARD SAYS NOTHING WORKED.  :(

But it should. I'm using the same router here. Just checked the instructions on portforward, it's all correct. What have you exactly done?
You'll have to:
- memorize the port HFS uses (Input field on the top, next to the on/off buton)
- go to your routers page, 'Applications&Gaming','Port Range Forward' and enter it there.
Here is an example of my settings:
(HFS uses port 230; My local IP is 192.168.123.3
Cheers,

Martok

I think the key here is "but today I was on another network" which to me means that you aren't in the same network. The 192.168.1.1 IP is for internal use only. That is not your external IP that can be accessed from the internet.

You need a program like Hamachi or a website like www.dyndns.org (supported by HFS) to access HFS from another network.

Please look at the Howto wikis.
