My last server response was notfqdn, which probably means "no update required, IP still unchanged".
from http://www.dyndns.com/developers/specs/return.html
notfqdn
The hostname specified is not a fully-qualified domain name (not in the form hostname.dyndns.org or domain.com).

maybe you can suggest a better message to show in the HFS dialog...?

Yes - just add a small explantation (or maybe the URL to the page with these descriptions).

Yes I had a typo in my host config, now it's nochg <IP>...
The forced update after entering data may be a problem as DynDNS considers it abusive, if you don't care about the server return message you could block your hostname... :?

if you enter data correctly, there should be no need to re-do it.
if you enter incorrect data, update is not committed and the policy should be respected.

Ok.

With the invalid host data, this is what the log told me:
Code: [Select]
11.03.2006 20:19:13 Dynamic DNS updated: 83.xxx.xxx.xxx - 7 bytes reply
In reality it updated nothing... Maybe the log entries should read more like
Code: [Select]
11.03.2006 20:19:13 Dynamic DNS failed with error code: notfqdn
Successful updates are only good and nochg.

it changes from service to service.
maybe in the future HFS will recognize replies for known services.
for now i just changed the message to a clearer "DNS update requested"

Ok, thank you.

But I think every server, be it DynDNS, NO-IP etc. sends some kind of message back to HFS. You could print that message with the log entry.

Code: [Select]
11.03.2006 20:19:13 DNS update requested: 83.xxx.xxx.xxx - reply: notfqdnWould this be possible?

if html is detected, it is saved to a temporary file.html and run (causing the browser to open it)

And is it possible to show message in log in case it is not HTML? (HFS can detect HTML, I guess)

I will now stop asking stupid questions and go to bed.

the message could be too long.
would you consider a good behaviour to include the message only if shorter than (let's say) 20 chars?
consider HFS may soon recognize such messages for supported services (ver2.1?)

1. I don't see "See last server response" in my beta 41
I waited long enough for my IP address to physically change.  Re-checked HFS and "see last server response" does show up and the full response I get is -> Status=1 which I guess means successful.  I also get a new log entry -> Dynamic DNS updated: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx - 8 bytes reply.  So it looks like everything is working correctly for no-ip.

2. "abort file addition" more visible - I still haven't come across it. Where do I find it?
how about this?

For the log on screen, it could be shortened. But if one logs to file, the complete messages would be great. This would aid solving problems by analyzing server messages in log files.

if the message is long (html?) shortening is probably meaningless and would fill the log with garbage

impraticable, the message can be several kb
