Hey, I did more research on this one before posting and I can't find an answer.

I have some dummy files in my root until you login, well they arent dummy files but they are for non logged-in users. I have 6 primary folders in the root that users see when they are logged in, there are about 10 files that are for non logged in users.. is there a way to logically group the 10 files so they are in a folder in my VFS called 'Annonymous' or something so my VFS isnt like 20+ folders and files long (when they arent expanded).

I guess my goal would be this:

Instead of: (in my vfs)

folder 1, folder 2, folder 3, folder 4, folder 5, folder 6 + dummy file 1 through 10

I'd like to see

folder 1, folder 2, folder 3, folder 4, folder 5, folder 6 + FOLDER 7 (with the 10 dummy files in them)

the catch is, I still want the files in folder 7 to show up in the root when a user hasnt logged in. (and for folder 7 to not be visible to anyone)

This might be a hard explanation, ask if you need verification.

I think I understand what you mean and the closest I think you could get to what you are after is to bind the root to a real folder but the dummy files will appear for anyone who has access to the root.

The first question is: Do you want than not logged-in users also see the folders to which you deny them access until they have logged in (that makes really no sense, but i've seen in some posts that users want such a 'perverse' behaviour !).

Second: Do you want to use one standard template  or do you use some personal or modified template(s).

I use a 'homepage' on root '/' , that is in a modified standard template, but that permits login.
My root directory in vfs basically contains:
/home/  ... for anonimous users
/root/    ... for registered users
/projects/ ... for registered users
each of this directories has it's diff-template (almost the same, but rejetto has not yet found the time to put in diff.template the option '#include path+templatename')
so in the 'homepage' I have a link 'access to fileserver' that leads to 'home' for anonimous users, and to 'root' for registred users (done with little javascript).

With this workaround you could group your vfs in two trees:  /public/ (your folder 7) and /root/ (folders 1..6 or more)

I'm working to set up a demoserver with this and some other features on a old laptop, because showing is better than description for a lot of things, Y will then give public access to server AND remote access trough to hfs to show how it's done - as long as there are no destructive activities.

your computer has no brain - use your own !

Yes, thats a fairly complicated explanation but once you set it up i'd love to try it, please include screenshots of the VFS, my only goal is to just be able to make a folder in the VFS called Anonymous (or something) and have the dummy files all be in there, but they show up in the root (when the page is loaded) and the Anonymous folder is invisible, Foggy, I'm open to your idea, could you explain a little better?

Right click on the house icon in the vfs and go bind root to real folder but that will show the dummy files to both anonymous users and logged in users. :(

for a link appear on your hfs web page; uses always "http://%host%/... at the beginning of link,
As it you are always insured that your links work, about is the user (internet or local)

Foggy, not sure how I've never seen that, never really needed it I guess. Thank you for that response, anyone know how to hide the files from the logged in user?
