I have set the speed the speed limitation to 1024kb/sec,but why is it that my friends only can download files from my server with around 300kb/s?Is it related to his isp?

Another question is that how can I set the permission of users?I only want them to browse the files but do not let them to download them how can I do that to a "guest" account?

Are U talking "really" about Kb/s or Ko/s  The speed limitation in HFs is in Ko/s
I noticed sometimes if one user gets two different files a the time there is a tendancy to use the full upload bandwith on my side ... so there is nothing to do with your HFS setup I think, it's a matter of Isp

Edit : second though some Isp use Qos (Cisco routers) that may impose Bandwith /priority for a set or ports and use (FTp, Emule, Torrent, etc..).  I long got around these limitations for my friends with Hfs set on port 80 (Web) it's also worth a trial.

300kb/s ? it's a great speed!
If you tell a guy to not go over 100mph, don't be surprised if he will only go at 20mph.

Thoughts ...may I use this topic for another related questions ?

My use of HFS is somewhat confidential and I would like to keep this way – things may change  when Fiber to Home comes along.

Thus I’m allowing only 2 different Ip to each registered user (one from Work use and the other for Home use)

I’ld like any advice on how :
a) to set a different upload speed limit for the same user in either case : Ip Work / Ip Home ( no, do not read “Happy Home” ... ;D)
b) to use the “Adress2Name” (User Account) in order to block any different Ip from the one set in that menu for one user.

Seems reasonnably promissing as it would
a) restrain people people dowloading from work (not really the place to get caught!)
b) avoid indelicate use of passwords.

Thanks

a) HFS has no limit based on the addess, sorry.
b) you have to use the "ban" feature, not the address2name, that's only to have better logs.

Thks Rejetto

I'll keep track and save the log windows to file - then do the appropriate ban.
My sons will not be happy about this... they do often connect to HFS from friends' pc elsewere   ::)

The ban feature not only "ban" the specified IPs.
It can also work in the inverted mode, ALLOWING only the specified IPs.

Rejetto, you're right : "People don't read .." .. but kids most of the times do what you told them not to do ...that's so humane ;)

I'll try to work it out

Did you consider use of Stunnel for https (encrypted) traffic?

select the files
right click
restrict access
all existing accounts

Sorry rejetto,I am an English(I am a HongKongnese) Noob.So what do you mean by the statement above?
Is that I only need to tick the accout of "guest" to let them to browse but not download?

I have already tested it,ALL THE ACCOUT CAN NOT DOWNLOAD BUT CAN BROWSE THE FILES

Or let me explain my question again.
I want  guest and anonymous accouts browse the files but do not let them to download them in order to increase the numbers of uses in my server. How can I do it with the help of HFS? Thanks for you kind assistance

what i mean? those were the instructions you should follow to reach your goal.
anyway, they are tailored thinking you have no guest account, but just anonymous users.

i'll try to rewrite:
you have to select the files, then right click on them.
go on restrict access, then click on "all existing accounts".

if you have a "guest" account you have to exclude, then again right click, restrict acces, and click on the guest account.
