using beta 249
and please forgive is this was mentioned, i did a search but found nothing.

i have a folder with say 1000 files, when i browse inot this folder, HFS just sits theres like it has hung, but if you wait, say up to 30 sec to 60 sec it will finally display the list..
i guess this is because there are too many files to list.

when i use IIS7 and go into same folder it will list everything instantly there is no lag.

one simple workaround:
create sub folders a-e, f-m, n-s, t-z
and place files into those folders, idea being is to lessen the burden on HFS to list so many files at one time.

thing is i have dozens of folders like this.

is this a known issue?> cuz i could not find a known issue list for HFS

or is there something in the settings i could change so it lists files quicker.
even with 100 files in 1 folder it takes a good 15 seconds to display it....
perhaps a working in progress indicator....what i'm seeing is ppl loose their patience and exit the website thinking it has crashed when in reality hfs is building the file list to display

any ideas on how to speed it up?

thanks again.

30 to 60 seconds to build a page are not normal.

See http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php/topic,7793.msg1047365.html#msg1047365

Maybe, if you have downloads using your full upload bandwidth, pages may be sent a little slower than normal.

Check in which conditions your pages are so slow (how many downloads, how many connections..)

1 connection and no one else is downloading yet when browsing a folder with more than 100 files takes too long to display it

maybe it's a problem with the rawr template theme
let me retest using default hfs

ok here are my results for beta 249

i browse a folder containing 366 .png files, they are wallpapers pictures, total size 73mb

with rawr template it takes 10 seconds to display contents

with hfs damn template 7 seconds
and with Default template, (original hfs), takes 6 seconds on avg

so it seems using a fancy template does slow it down a bit more.

no where on the page does it say how long it took to create the page...i thought this might be some where. i think i saw this on the non beta version but for 249 i dont see it there.

i'm reverting back to the simple original hfs template as i do see a difference, it lists folder contents faster.

any ideas how to speed it up.

please note when i compare this to IIS, same directoy, less than 1 second to display contents. near instant on the browser.

To show the buildtime of the template, put %build-time% somewhere in your template.

i did more tests
using the rawr template if i browse a folder with over 100 files, it will add about 2 or 3 seconds build time
if i use the hfs default, it reduces build time by 1 or 2
but both templates...if i browse a folder with over 500 files, it takes about 15 seconds to build
if i browse a folder with 1000 files, about 30sec

is there a way to fix this? or is it a known issue?
could it be something with firefox?

i tried IE8
to open a folder with 160 files took 7 sec
to open a folder with 5.681 files.....this caused HFS to hang! i crashed it.!!

this is with no one but me connected to it, so no one is taking bandwidth. i would think listing folders should go quick. any folder with over a 1000 is not a happy experience for the person browsing.

i could not tell any difference with either browse they seem to avg about the same when i open same folders.

Your buildtimes are very high.
I get the following values (with custom template, standard template needs about 70%) :
300 < 1 sec
600 < 2 sec
1200 < 4sec
1500 < 6sec

All folders are real folders in my case.

¿maybe you have few free memory? ¿memory swapping? Or an antivirus slowing down read operations?

ok i disabled norton antivirus, on the server itself
but i see no diference.
i browse my website from 3 other computers, same thing.
i also browse outside my LAN ip address, another isp.
same thing

with custom template it adds about 2 sec delay when browsing. which i can live with
but browsing a folder with over 2000 files causes hfs to hang
this is similar to archivable folders.
if i archive a folder containing over 1gb in files, HFS will hang or become unresponsive

you build times are fast. i wonder what else can i do tto troubleshoot it so i can get those kind of build times.

i guess it's because of Menu > virtual file system > use system icons
IIS don't load such icons.

how long it takes for the icons to be loaded depends on the files in the folder. cannot be foretold.

no where on the page does it say how long it took to create the page... i thought this might be some where.

it is, but hidden.
show the html source of the page, and you'll see the value at the end of it.
it's hidden because normally visitors are not interested in it, and should not be bothered.
