Youtube videos sometimes do not have a complete metadata, they use a database to make the videos display correctly. For the RAWR-Player to hold the aspect ratio, the code has to read the files internal metadata to make it fit correctly.

You can fix this by using a program like FLVMDI (FLV Metadata Injector), it will repair the file.

It is a command line program, but there is a user interface available on the website.

Hope this helps some people.

so downloading flv from youtube, then re-meta injection then add to hfs, seems a rather long thing to do, you could always have vlc play with this vlc_controls.options.set("aspect-ratio","16:9");

it can be changed into whatever vlc supports. you can just download flv from youtube to hfs folder and play it with the right aspect-ratio.

flash players are outdated

yes but flash works on everything. vlc only works on computers with vlc and its plugins installed, which isn't the default installation setting. but I agree, I can't wait until HTML5 personally, video will be natively supported in the browser. also this is only for .FLV file format.
