Bug reports / Re: No login dialog when accessing from dyndns account
« on: November 26, 2011, 04:13:23 AM »
It could be it's not a HFS issue, but I doubt it's the same problem as that you signaled me.

Just for info:
Yes, the browser is Chrome (15.0.874.121 m)
From the same pc, but MSIE (browser on pc 101, server on pc 101) that works (I got the login dialog)

But:
With Object inspector I don't see frames (moreover, in my knoweledge dyndns.com don't have ads or frames)
From another pc (browser chrome v.12.0.742.112 on pc 100, server on pc 101) it works (always dyndns.com)
Updated Chrome on 100. With v15.0.874.121 m (same as 101) from browser on 100 to server on 101 via dyndns, it works
Right-click on Login, then 'Open in another tab' (or window), don't works

Hope that could help improve HFS, a really good software.

Thanks anyway

Piero

Bug reports / No login dialog when accessing from dyndns account
« on: November 24, 2011, 02:43:45 AM »
Hi all,

I have
- a LAN
- 2 PC (IP 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101)
- 2 HFS v. 2.3b (#269 on 100, #272 on 101)
- a dyndns account
- a router with NAT table (port 8080 for 100, 80 for 101)
- a HFS-VFS with 2 real folders with user access set
- Accept connections on: Any address

When, from the 101 machine, I access my 101 server via dyndns domain name, I get the home page. Then I click on Login. The page reload, but I don't get the login dialog.

When I do the same on the 100 machine (access the 100 server from the 100 machine via dyndns domain name:8080), all works correctly.
When, from the 101 machine, I access the 101 server with 127.0.0.1 or with 192.168.1.101, all works correctly.
When, from the 100 machine I access the 101 server via dyndns domain name, all works correctly. The same is with 192.168.1.101

In the 'Accept connections on' list I don't see the dyndns domain name, that is shown in IP address instead)

Any idea?

Piero

That connections are very fast. He connect and disconnect immediately (I think for testing purposes, but I'm not an expert).
In the log I can't see a request, so I suspect he don't produce a [request] event but, knowing the internal coding of HFS, you can say it better as I can.

In every case, I will try it, even if I have never used the macro feature in HFS, and even if, from my point of view, in an 'Addresses ever connected' list should be recorded every connection attempt. Moreover, it were a good feature for attack detection purpose...

Just for my ill curiousity: where can I find material about tests and weaknesses of HFS? Did someone tried something in that way?

Hi,

I noticed that some addresses in the log aren't reported in the 'Addresses ever connected' list.
That connections are very shorts, they connect and disconnect in a wery short time (less than 1 second).
I traced some of them, 1 from China, another from Czeck Republic, another from Nederlands.

It seems to me that at least one of this connections was organized: the ip connected on port 47495, then tryed all ports from 47652 to 47661, then closed the 47495 connection previously opened. I'm not a geek but it seems to me a scan. Why the submentioned list don't report this ip numbers? It's planned or it's a bug?

It were intresting to record in the 'Addresses ever connected' list, for every ip number:
- the timestamp of the last connection
- the number of tried/succeeded connections
- the connection-level reached (he connected/disconnected only, or uploaded/downloaded, or ...??)
- the uploaded/downloaded data amount
- ...? (other ideas?)

That would be suitable for attacks and intrusion detection purpose.

Two pc switched off? mmmhhhh... (HFS and VNC are on two separate machines).

I'm back to the server!

I confirm.

The IP reported in the dyndns settings page is different from the actual IP showed in the router page.
Clearly, the server don't responds with the literal name, but it responds with 127.0.0.1 (dialog still visible, waiting for an answer).

The dialog don't stop the server, but dyndns IP isn't updated.
I will install a dyndns updater on my VNC server, but I hope my discovery will be useful for your excellent work.
Thanks again for HFS!

PS: I saw the change on bad dates in the folder. Now bad dates are shown, and it is possible to enter in folders with corrupted dates. Thanks.

I confirm the problem.

Explanations:
I saw the Available update dialog on the HFS-server.

Working yesterday on the pc that hosts hfs server:
- I tryed addressing his browser to the dyndns litteral address: the server was responding. The dialog doesn't stop the server!
- I left the dialog open to try later, and from another pc.

Working today on another pc (WAN access):
- the server is unreachable!
- the VNC server on the same LAN is unreachable!!
It seems that the dialog stops the dyndns ip-number update (dyndns wizard). In fact I use the HFS-dyndns wizard to update the ip-number for the VNC server, too.

Later I'll go back to the server and test it again.

Bug reports / Re: [request] Upload bandwith limit?
« on: February 26, 2010, 03:11:04 AM »
QoS on the router can solve the problem??

Glad to help you!
I'm curious! What happens if my real folders are on both my local c: and d: disks, and only one of both is full?
I'll try that tomorrow, but perhaps you already have the answer.

Two ways to solve the problem:
- check the drive of any single folder against the same free space limit (treat that problem as a bug fix)
- give the ability to put several limits, one for each drive concerned (treat that problem as a program enhancement).
In the second case, we can wait more as a build. At the moment, I consider more important a stable version...   :-*
What about you?

Hi,
my HFS filesystem have both local and network-connected real folders, and HFS Maximum disk space limit is set to 1 GB.

When I upload a file to the network folder, I get the disk limit reached message, because my local C: drive have less than 1 GB free space, but the network storage isn't out of space.

It's a bug or there is a workaround?

I'll double check.
Every time the server was not responding to a request from the WAN, I'm gone to the server and found the Available update messagem, but it can be that the problem is not the message itself.
I activate the auto check again and keep you informed (see you on the next update).

I forgot: i enabled the DynDNS wizard. Perhaps the problem is there? Next time I see the problem, I'll check the local accessibility, too.

Thanks for the answer, the support, and for HFS, of course.

I'm using the beta version because of his management of users access, that is much easyer as the last stable version. Moreover, my server is often unattended, but for a restricted non-professional use: the kids of a skatebord-team download his video-clips.

SP, can you tell me the right options to have the message and the server work toghether? Or you are telling me to stop the auto-check message, as in your preceding post (or to do auto-updates)?

Thanks, anyway.

All beta versions till build 253

Maybe that is not a real bug, but ...

I activate the 'Update-Auto check every day' option.
When a new build is available, a dialog box is shown asking me if I want to update, then the server stop responding.
This is not suitable for unattended servers.
Shall I uncheck the autocheckupdate option?
No way to be advised and to have HFS still responding?

Bug reports / Re: Some folder don't allow access - Found!
« on: November 03, 2009, 04:12:01 AM »
Sorry, I didn't know LAN paths where disadvised. Btw. by me, till now, it seems to work well.

Finding the cause of the problems I excluded the LAN path and the path lenght assumptions (if somebody is intrested, I can post the tests I made).

My attention went toward a bad char/bad char sequence problem, so I opened a command shell to put the directory list in a file and post-it. There I have seen the cause of the problem: in all the inaccessible folder I have some files or folders with a BAD DATE (creation and last modified dates).
In the details wiew in Windows Explorer, no date is shown. With DOS dir command, and in Properties dialog box I can see (EU format dd/mm/yyyy) 03.01.10000 or 29.12.9999.

Clearly I have to arrange that of my own, but I hope I can help rejetto to emprove and strengthen his wonderful application.
Finally, two questions:
- do anybody know some software I can use to mass-check and change timestamps? (I have really a lot of files and folders)
- have you an idea of the source of my problem? Those dates tells you something? Had everybody similar experiences with a win2k pro fileserver and XP workstation?M

Many thanks

Bug reports / Some folder don't allow access - Some details
« on: November 01, 2009, 05:03:49 AM »
Running WinXp Home, but the files are in a unique tree on a LAN ressource:
\\server\ElementsFiniti\Contents\Final- Down\

The problem occurs entering in some sub-folders of 'Final- Down'
From the WAN people access my server trough a router with NAT. Port 80 is mapped with the machine running HFS.
