router & port problems / Dynamic I.P. address software
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:17:32 PM »
Hi everyone,
Haven't been on the forums for awhile been busy working and trying to sell my house. But i
did write a small program in vb.net that will find your external i.p. address when you click on the button.I've tested it for a while on alot of windows computers and it works nice if you have an internet connection. This is my first version and it is free to anyone who wants to use it.I'm going to try if i have the time to add a few extra features. If you would like to try it e-mail me and i'll send it to you thru e-mail. Hello Heath,
Cox cable does not allow http servers so they block all of the common ports for http.So you cannot use port 80,or 8080 when you port forward. You must pick a different port to portforward i like port 192 it always works. And as far as your firewall goes you don't have to disable it you just have to go into advanced settings and allow HFS on the port you forward to.
Hope i was of help to you. Bob

Rejetto,
I must thank you for great software.I now use HFS server instead of Filezilla.I find HFS so much easyer to use for people who don't know how to use an ftp client. With your great server all a person has to do is type in my http address into the browser address bar and "WHAM" " BAM" your in.
Thanks from Bob

Hello,
just wanted to let you know i had the same problem. This is a problem with your ISP they do not want you to run a server on your home pc.So what they do is block common ports for http servers. What you have to do is go back into your router and change your port number.Choose a port like 192 and forward this instead og 80,or 8080.Then once you do this change the port that HFS uses to the port you forwarded and then run the self test.It should work then.Remember ISP's don't want you running servers so they will do anything they can to stop you.
Hope this was helpful   Bob
