router & port problems / DSL modem stealing my external IP

Hey everyone. I'm in a bit of a hole here... My DSL modem is using my external IP as its address for the control panel, how do i stop this and use the external as an ip for HFS?
Details: I Get the external ip via HFS. I tell my friends to put it in their browser and try it out. They say they get a message saying that they could not log into my modem configuration. Which is nice, at least no one will hack my modem config, but i want to have an external ip free for the HFS. What do i do???
