goto www.portforward.com and follow the guide for your router.

open a cmd window and type : ipconfig
then hit enter.
now you will see a ip that look like this : 192.168.1.2 or something like that.
lets say it is 192.168.1.2 then forward/open port 80(or choosen port) to that ip.

by listening to a port i meen start hfs.exe and choose port 80 and start hfs.
now do the check at canyouseeme.org.

Says no route to host when I use port 80. But it's already forwarded due to game I have doing it automatically.
I'm using port 20000 and it says it's fine and that the ISP is not blocking it

are you listening on port 80 during the test.??
if not canyouseeme.org will say its closed.

did you open port 80 to right computer?
so it points to correct lan ip.

ummm dunno how to do that.

if it works from your phone, then the problem is on the PS3.
Anyway, i cannot exclude it may be a limit of the PS3 that you have to workaround on the HFS side.
Like.... the PS3 may not like the non-standard port, and wants 80.

alright, but for some reason I'm unable to use port 80. it keeps saying it's not forwarded yet it already is forwarded.. I hate computers sometimes lol...

Web-sites use port 80, but if you just want to send a file to your friend then pick something between 10000 and 60000.

The port needs to be forwarded, de-firewalled, etc. of course.

Your friend would then access your HFS at http://IP:PORT/

I think I've figured it half out. I am able to access the server from my phone ( Disconnected from wifi of course )
by typing in my external IP:20000

My friend can also access it via his phone. However.... He is not able to connect via his PS3. He said it just comes up as he typed the address wrong in his browser.. I dunno?

Ya I tried forever with port forwarding and it didnt work for me. I'll give it another shot.
He needs my external IP right? I have no issues give him a new IP whenever it changes. I have a great connection and hardly lose it so I'll go weeks without the IP changing.

so for him to connect it would be external IP.port?  Any idea on a port to use? or just use a random number?

Hello, I been using HPS for quite awhile now and love it. I use it to transfer movies from my computer to my PS3.

Reason I am coming on here now is to see if there is a way to let a friend of mine access a file I want to share so he can download it to his computer or PS3. I looked in FAQ and didnt see anything.

We're getting tired of burning DVD's so he can get the files he wants off me. I heard HFS can do this but I still havent found a way..
