HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: New version: 2.3
« on: March 28, 2014, 10:33:31 PM »
Sorry to ask a simple / stupid question.

I have been using HFS for a long time (build 282) with RAWR template 0.1.3.

If I upgrade to latest version of 2.3 or 2.3a will it change to the new template or will it continue to use RAWR template?

Ideally I would like to upgrade, still using RAWR template, then try new template when happy with everything else.

TIA

Version 2.3 beta #282

Still puzzled....

I should start by saying I have no idea if this is related to HFS or some other phenomenon, but I am looking for suggestions.

I have a PC running HFS - very happy with performance and everything works well.

I have two Internet connections - one 80/20 fibre and one 7/0.5 ADSL - both with static IP's.  Both are connected through a dual wan firewall running pfSense under BSD. Port 80 on both is forwarded to the same PC.

For almost all my users they can dl from me at full speed through either or both connections - limited either by my bandwidth or theirs - no problem. If they DL through both connections at the same time they can max out both of them. (Again subject to the connection speed limits)

BUT

One user in Australia has a weird problem. If they download through the first connection it starts at 1MB/s (Their limit). After a short while it reduces to about 80-90KB/s. Sometimes it will then increase back to 1MB/s for a few secs, before dropping back down.
HOWEVER
If they start a second download from the other connection at the same time the first one increases to 1MB/s and stays there - so both of them run at the maximum rate. Stopping the second connection causes the first one to reduce from 1MB/s back to 80-90KB/s

I should add that the graph showing the rate is varied - not showing the "flat top" that happens if the rate is limited by something artificially.

Any thoughts as to why?  And how to overcome / avoid?

TIA

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Help to move HFS to new Computer
« on: November 13, 2012, 12:21:03 AM »
I have searched on backup/restore./move/transfer - but cannot find any full instructions on how to move an existing HFS setup to a brand new computer?  Apologies if it is listed somewhere - if so would someone be good enough to point me in that direction?

I am upgrading to a new computer and want to install HFS with exactly the the same configuration as I have now - including templates, users, security, etc. etc.

Appreciate some guidance..
(Using 2.3beta (282))

TIA

I also have seen the same problem - with "sawtooth" uploads.  With local LAN access the speed is very fast. Even with local internet access the speed remans high and constant.

The problem seems to happen with users further away - I have duplicated problem with US and Australian users - different ISP's of course. I have two separate ISP (one fibre, one adsl) and the problem is with both - again only when user is lng disctance away.
CPU load is very low - 5-7% - so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I am certain I didnt have the problem a year ago - but cannot honestly say when it started - or whether it coincided with updated version.

Any thoughts as to what might be the problem - can I get an older version to retry?

Thanks in advance

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Help - Menu Access with no Icon?
« on: July 23, 2011, 06:00:36 PM »
I have just started to use HFS - all working well and am very impressed. Trying out various features I selected the hide icon from system tray option.  It works perfectly - but how do I get it back and/or display the menu?

I have searched for "unhide" and "display" icon - but cannot find anything?

Help appreciated
