Hi,
I´m using HFS 2.3 Build 272 on Windows Homeserver (which is Server 2003). Yesterday Windows installed the KB2418635 on my Computer and after reboot there is no more access to HFS. Seems that the Windows Security-Update blocks something that HFS needs. MS documentaion to KB2419635 tells there are "no problem" - of course.
When acessing HFS like usual, HFS recognizes the Client and says "requestimg", but no data occurs.
By the way yetserday I also testet Smartermail 7.0 on the server on another port and it works... ISS works, too.
Testing HFS on another Client with XP (and this Update) gives same result: Requesting .... and no data. So it seems to be only between Windows and HFS...
Anyone with the same problem?
Thanks for any help.

Just found out that on the Client the Update is KB2419632. Seems to be the same as KB2419635 for Server
-
Some more testing: On the Client "Localhost" didn´t function at all, calling HFS by the IP (192.168......) works ONE TIME, then again: Requesting ... and no data
-
Some more testing:
Deinstallation of KB2419635 / KB2419635 results to nothing: Doesn´t work
Calling HFS from WHS (Windows Home Server) by "http://localhost:Port" Doesn´t work
Calling HFS from WHS by "http://192.168.0.200:Port": WORKS!!!
Calling HFS from WHS by "http://127.0.0.1:Port": WORKS!!!
Calling HFS from any other PC (regardless how) Doesn´t work
Calling HFS over internet (regardless how) Doesn´t work
Any ideas ?
Thanks for any help.

If IIS is running, wouldn't it interfere with HFS? I had to install IIS for a network printer and I couldn't connect with HFS, so rather than troubleshoot, I just connected the printer to a local computer. The only suggestion I would say is make sure another program is not interfering with HFS, try changing the port HFS is running on.

thanks for your answer. Will try other ports.
The thing is...it was OK till yesterday (with IIS running for the Homeserver-Page) when
I installed smartermail (on another port of course) and
KB2419635 was installed
curious: From a third Client WITHOUT that update (and smartermail...) it functions by calling HFS with "http://192.168.0.200:Port"; neither from the internet.
Will keep on testing ...

Hi,
the problem is nearly solved. First of all, it ist NOT KB2419635. And - naturally - not HFS.
Smartermail seems to put some data in the cookies (Firefox) or temporary internet-Files (iE) that blocks HFS, localhost and more. After wiping the cache, HFS runs as usual. Tested on several Clients.
Now its time to find this stupid file/cookie or whatever it is. If I can isolate it, I´ll post it, maybe somebody uses both programs, too.
@rejetto: thank you for that great piece of software.

i wonder how a cookie may prevent HFS from working :-\
-
I could hardly believe it, too.
Maybe there is another reason for this blocking, but deleting the cookies helps on all clients, no matter if it is IE oder Firefox. Think I´m not skilled enough to find this real error. Hopefully it is not a virus, my scanner tells me nothing about it.
It is not only HFS blocked but also e.g. "http://localhost:(Port)" on the server and all clients, that were connected with smartermail webmail before untill the cookies of smartermail are wiped out. I already made a post in smartermail forum, maybe someone better skilled than me reads it...
By the way: If e.g Firefox is "clean", HFS works even if I´m logged into smartermail via IE same time.
If I can send you information that could help you get behind that, please tell me.
thank you in advance
Ronny
