im using version 2.2d build 152
Some download agent have some nasty trick, trying to request when the file is not there / it is already banned. It did request about 20-25 request per second which is killing my pc.
-
did you try the "disconnect with no reply" option, under the bans?
-
I've already try it. it still the same. :-\
-
is your PC stuck in such situations?
did you have a look at CPU usage?
what's your CPU speed?
-
are you sure that's a banned user and it's not a spider? Do you have a robots.txt file in your root to disallow robots?
-
if it's banned it should not be displayed in the log, unless you have the "banned" option in the log ON
-
my web only accessible locally, so, no spider n such. i can say CPU usage is at maximum (im using dual core proc. so, about 48%, with one core max). my pc didnt stuck but hfs did. my friend also using it and face same problem. to ban these ppl, we use firewall instead.
-
your HFS is accessed only locally?
then you should know who is making those requests.
in a LAN, a DoS attack is easier, there are no bandwidth problems.
-
thats the problem. firewall only way to solve it. so, case close already eh..?
-
BTW, im on college network. its a large network and im not related to admin work at all. so it is very hard to find out who did the request. when on the net, i think it will be no problem (bandwidth limit).
thanks for the reply.

it's hard for me to understand the amount of requests made to your HFS.
if it's a very high load, HFS is not designed to manage it.
you can try to measure the bandwidth used, and talk to the guy who is doing it.
I'm interested to know the amount, to know better what HFS can handle, and cannot.
anyway, if it's not a distributed dos, but comes just from a single IP, the firewall solution is not bad.
-
Talk about load, my hfs at maximum i ever see serve about 15-25 client which is no problem. I turn on the anti-leech and set the maximum download per IP to 1, maximum connection per ip to 8 and speed limit to 4096KB/s. but when that annoying guy with his stupid download manager download, hfs just stuck there and sometimes even exit on its own. at that time, no other clients are connected.
-
try the latest beta build.
i'm experimenting a thing that may greatly improve HFS stability with many connections.
-
i got same issue with diffrent form
i have set the download to 1 file at a time and and no simultineous connection to that file but user can browse
ppl use downloaders that make 5-10 connections and and some time with IDM 30 connection that stuck HFS and sometime slower down my pc too
i have 2GB of Ram with AMD Phenom 3Ghz Quad Core CpU
any hint?
-
you forgot to tell your hfs version
-
i got the same problem in all hfs version
currenty using beta 216
-
please post the settings you set to get such limits, so i will try to reproduce

Run HostsMan
(abelhadigital)
and simply add the ip's to your host file.
Never bother you again
