Title: HFS + Router +need help
Post by: megabyte366 on November 14, 2008, 08:07:58 PM
just download the software and did all the stuff i need to do.. made an static ip,,, ping it and it responded..... in the open browser... the static ip showed up there with port 800.... did the test and it's a no go!!!!!

the box said... hfs 22.d (152)
test failed: server does not answer.

you are behind a router.
Ensure it is configured to forward port 80 to your computer.

help...

thanks

You must config a portforwarding of port 80 in your router to your static pc ip-adresse of your HFS-Server PC. And if you want to connect to your server from or over the internet, you must have an Dynamic DNS Account.

Pit: I did that... in the linksys under app and games... put hfs  port 80  port 80  192.168.1.13    both     enable...

not sure... i've tried a bunch of port to see if i can get them to work..... everything is coming back after the test.... you are behind a router.
Ensure it is configured to forward port 80 to your computer.

don't have a clue....   I added you to msn...... if you want to chat... the one you have on profile..

It´s possible that your isp not allow the port 80 to run your own server.

Do you have an Dynamic DNS Entry for your server. if yes - can you tell me the URL to your server?

Did you have a showed here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm) for your router?

if you are talking about something like no-ip  then it's megafile.no-ip.info

This website is not reachable.

1. On which port your server runs now?

2. And what is your public ip?

3. Do you use a firewall?

Did you have showed here http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm (http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm) for your router?
here you get many infos about the most routerconfigurations.

You must forwarding the port 1900 to your pc with the HFS-Server

a ping to your adress and a portscan gives me no results

Have you tried shutting down your firewall?
Also, have you tried moving the server computer to DMZ in router?
Does the server computer have a static ip in windows, like 192.168.1.50?
I have a WRT54G. Its usually pretty easy to set up.

4.

I have the similar problems before just want to shared here , in my case i did the setting in ADSL Modem (my brand is D-Link) then self test successful ! even the port forward are set correctly in Router .

1 . I set the Lan Clients to ~ I.P 192.168.1.2  , See attachment filename "Capture3"

2. Then I set the DMZ enable with same I.P 192.168.1.2 , See attachment filename "Capture4"

After that i do Self Test , it work perfectly till now .

Hope this can help you to solved your problems .Just give a Try .

Good Luck  ;D :D

1. do you have any other server software working on your computer?
2. did you actually tried another port, like 2000, by setting both hfs and the rule on your router for this same port?
3. can the other PC in your lan see your hfs?
4. did you try switching your software firewall off?

1. firewall on router..... under security... there is no way to enable it or disable the firewall......

2. the sys... vista... i just did a fresh install... and have all the updates from windows....

3. just went to back cpu and type in 192.168.1.174 and hit enter and went to the hfs software...

4. I went and download this free file... just for kicks..
Code: [Select]
http://www.pcwintech.com/node/8 and tried it.... to see if there was something that i missed....

5. man this thing is kicking my butt!!!!

1. 2. they are answers, but not related to my questions
3. in your screenshots you are forwarding to 192.168.1.50, so why are you now typing 174 as address for your hfs?
4. it looks nice
5. i can see it's sore

Looking at the router sceenshots I noticed something I think is wrong.
In Basic Setup you had Starting IP Address as 192.168.1.100, but
in Apps & Gaming you have HFS1 forwarded to 192.168.1.50
I don't think that will work? I don't use port 80, no real reason.
I use something like 2080. Otherwise your router settings look
like mine.
A tip - the wrt54g will allow you to connect to HFS locally with your
external (internet) internet address, like
Code: [Select]
http://174.26.98.113:2080
Try this:
1. Reset your router in Setup > Basic Setup > Starting IP Address to 192.168.1.40
(Be aware that IF you have wireless devices come online set to automatic connect
they will take the lowest vacant ip first, and could cause a confilict, if the server
with a static local network ip comes on line later, it may find its assigned ip taken)
2. In Applications & Gaming > Port Range Forward , leave as is , but change port
start and end to 2080 or something other than 80.
3. Turn HFS off and set to that port, then make sure its turned back on.
5. Go to Status page in router and see what it shows as your ip address
then enter that in browser with :port after, or use hfs self test, etc and
see what happens.

okay everyone...... got the damn thing to work...... I feel real stupid.... i told you it was something small and easy.... so i guess you would like to know what it was.... i was looking at something this morning... and that light bulb went off..... the ip i was looking at was 192.168.15.1  and it looked weird..... then it hit me.. that is vonage router id..... so i disconnected the vonage and ran the cable from box to router and press'o it works...... atleast the test does......

now i have to configure the vonage now......

thanks everyone for the help.......
