I can not get this to work
I am using windows vista with a surfboard modem from cox cable and a belkin router
I have went through all the steps of port forwarding, self test fails (says need to enable port forwarding) double cheked firewall, tried different port numbers, disconected router connected straight to modem, self test fails (says may be behind firewall) but firewall is disabled,
I can not connect to file/folder from computer on same network or through the net if I open in browser with hfs on this computer it works fine.
I would appreciate your help

I'd recommend testing another port than 80. And call your ISP, it could be they don't allow servers and block common server ports.

if your LAN computers cannot reach you either, then the problem has nothing to do with router/self test/port forwarding.
1 ensure you are giving your LAN computers your LAN address, and not your external/internet address
2 your problem is likely to be made by a software firewall on your own computer

Hello Heath,
Cox cable does not allow http servers so they block all of the common ports for http.So you cannot use port 80,or 8080 when you port forward. You must pick a different port to portforward i like port 192 it always works. And as far as your firewall goes you don't have to disable it you just have to go into advanced settings and allow HFS on the port you forward to.
Hope i was of help to you. Bob
