If a folder is added to the server, HFS will display the folder name in a template page when the url does not have the folder name in the web url path. When the HFS template page is displayed and someone clicks on the folder to open it, a new blank web page opens. If the browser back button is used, you end up back at the same page that shows the folder( no files showing). If the browser foward button is used, the HFS template now shows the files in the folder. Is this normal behaviour?
-
1 what version are you using?
2 what template are you using?
3 what's the name of the folder?
4 what's the first wrong link?
-
HFS ver is 2.3 beta.
Template is the default template that comes with HFS 2.3
Folder name was "admin" but changed it to "look" and behavior is same. Changed back to 'admin'.
URL fttp://surr.us:8080 will show the admin folder.
URL fttp://surr.us:8080/admin shows file.
Also, using win 2k server. IE6.0.2800.1106
-
what's the build number appearing in the HFS title bar ?
-
Build is 195. The HFS server is up and you can try it yourself.
http://surr.us:8080 this will get you the admin folder that has the behavior as described above.
-
Your problem should have been solved in 195, but i'm now noticing i forgot to apply some of the changes, leaving clearly the problem.
Can you trying applying this attached template?
It is supposed to fix the problem.
Then, please, report if it actually does, because i'm interested.
Build 196 will have such template, in the hope it is actually fixing.
Your test is just what i needed to be sure it is effective. Very valuable to me. :)

I think I added the new template using the menu>html template>change file.
The new template was opened then box disappeared with no other input asked for. I assume it was added.
The behavior of the html page is the same as before with the admin folder.
I noticed you tried it again. Success or Not??????
Thanks,
Rick

No, it seems like it is not using the new template.
Try again.
-
New default file should be loaded. I was saving the attached file as an html file instead of saving as "all files". Added twice to HFS. After opening, does HFS have to be restarted or something else refreshed, saved, or ????????? I tried html again, and admin folder behave same.
-
Ok, now the new template is actually running.
Try empting the cache of your Internet Explorer, and re-test please.
I cannot because i have IE7, and the problem is fixed in this version.
-
Cleaned all temp files and problem same except:
I added another folder that has a bunch of other folders and files. When I click on 'hampix' folder, files extract open as I think they should.
But if I click on 'admin' folder it still works as with old or new template. I have deleted and recreated the admin folder 3 times and it behaves the same.
Hampix folder works ok.
I thought win2k server permissions might be causing problem but they are same as hampix folder which works ok.
I am stumpted.
-
You may also be interested that I am testing this on 2 separate computers on the same network, one is win2k server and the other is win2k pro. Both are using the same ver. of IE6.
-
mmmmm, so there's something different between the 2 folders, and this difference it causing the problem.
i'm very interested in finding what it is.
can you investigate further until you find it?
a method can be to change one thing at time, until the 2 folders are exactly the same.
before or later, the problem should disappear, then you will know the last change you made pointed the thing causing the problem.
will you? :)
-
Yes, I can play with it but it might take some time. I'll post back when I find something or not.
Thanks,
Rick
-
ok, but if you give up, come back anyway, and we may find some other way

I tested all kinds of folders and they are not being displayed correctly. Sometimes folders will display one level down but the problem of the blank screen occurs with all other files and folders. I tried Mozilla browser and it works fine by displaying folders and files after being clicked. I tried Windows folders like "program" files and they don't work either. This is a IE6 problem and you may be able to compensate for what ever is causing the problem in IE6 but thats up to you.
I have had download problems from IE6 since I switched from IE5 to IE6 on FTP sites. Some FTP sites state on their http front ends that IE6 won't work on their site at all and don't report bugs because they are not going to waste time to fix it.
Filezilla must have done something by accident because their server is compatable with IE6. I have never had any noticeable problems with it in IE6.. I also could not get Microsoft FTP server to display correctly in IE6.
I am going to bail on this problem since I have no idea whats going on or do I have any repeated and tested changes that could have clues.
Thanks,
Rick

Consider HFS is not FTP.
FTP is not a generic way to remotely manage files, but a specific one, and not the one used by HFS.
That said, what about the 'hampix' folder? Is that working or it is not as the others?
Don't give up, i have one more advice for you, but please answer my questions first.
I know this is actually an IE6 bug, but since it will be widely used for some months still, i'm trying to find a workaround with your help.
-
At this point I just don't have time to find the problem. IE6 is widely used and will be for a long time. I have IBM HTTP server which I don't have time to install and learn now, maybe in the fall. So Rejetto I'm going have to bail on providing more time. Good Luck with HFS.....
-
ok, thank you anyway
-
I had the luck to have an old IE6 PC with win2000.
The bug was there and i was able to make all the tests.
I finally found HOW to reproduce the bug, and it is a quite complex situation.
Tonight i'll make a workaround, and tomorrow i will test it on my father's PC.
If all goes fine, we'll get rid of this bug, finally.
Cross your fingers.

Yes, the files and folders seem to display as the folder names are clicked Thanks.
