Title: Idea for the log.
Post by: TSG on May 06, 2007, 06:32:54 AM
I was wondering if we could get HFS to resolve connected IP addresses... Like a Source DNS could be logged aswell as the connecting IP...

So say my current IP is like:
59.100.10.170

The log could also show this extra data for my address...
C-59-100-10-170.for.connect.net.au

And so if my server is being spammed by a site I will know without having to go to http://www.arin.net/whois/ (http://www.arin.net/whois/) and checkout who it is that connected to me.

My firewall does something like this actually, but only for blocked IP's :) I will post an example.

I think i have seen a few p2p clients that can do this aswell.

You mean Reverse DNS? This requires additional queries to the DNS (more bandwidth used). If it is optional, why not?

Exactly, i mean even if it only checks once for each connected IP address that would be perfectly fine.
