Title: Context menu problem
Post by: paul1149 on March 21, 2007, 05:07:12 AM
Hi,

Just started using 2.1. Very impressed. This compact prog does an awful lot, yet is so easy to setup and use. Excellent work.

Now to the prob. In Win XP, the context menu item only brings up the Open With dialog. If I select hfs, the file is added to my virtual folder. But I must select hfs from the list each time manually; otherwise Windows is asking me to assign the file extension to hfs, which of course would not be good.

What am I missing with this?

Thanks,
p.

BTW, that's version 2.1d that I'm using.

I see. The option is for loading .vfs file configurations. I thought it was to make individual files available (which indeed it does, after going through the Choose Application dialog).

don't you see an "Add to HFS" command?

(expert mode)
menu -> other options -> shell context menu

Let me synopsize the problem for clarity. I was using the Add to HFS action to add files to my virtual folder. At least when there's only one virtual folder, this works well, I found. The problem was that Windows kept asking me which program I wanted to use to execute the command, based on the file's filename extension, so an extra step was involved.

Then in my reading I found that the command is meant for .vfs files only. Now the whole thing made sense.

I do, however, think an Add File to HFS command for any file type would be a nice enhancement.

Anyway, thanks much for a great prog.

No.
"Add to HFS" is for any type.
you are facing an unexpected problem.
Try disabling and reenabling the shell context menu in HFS.

The VFS files thing works with the "Open" (or doubleclick) command. Doesn't need the Add to HFS command.

Wow, that indeed cured it. I don't know what the original problem was. This is a new install and there are a couple of problems. Thanks much; working very nicely now.

The registry entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT got corrupt. Simple as that.
