Title: How to set up a rotating log
Post by: GrapeApe on March 17, 2007, 07:08:30 AM
Ive got new log files being created everyday (as long as there is traffic) with the  date in the file name , is there some way to keep a max of 7 files and  delete the oldest log file  (In other words a rotating log)?

Hi!

I think there is no way right now but this is a very good feature req and i think it's "an easy one" for Rejetto too. Hmm?

you can already do it!

right click on log -> log to file -> hfs.%dow%.log

And HFS overwrites logs from previous week? Or does it just append?

whooops.... i fear it will just append.

at the moment i can't see an easy way to rotate the logs, from the programmer's point of view. :/

Well actually  I'm still using wincron to rotate the log itself to another folder and then later delete them based on date created. I thought I should  at least explain what I am doing .This combo works well but you have to write a little script to make wincron work but I would be willing  share if someone needed some help.

it's likely HFS will have a rotation feature in the future
