Title: Yet Another Need Help Post

First off...Pretty amazing how many people ask the same questions...

Well, my Q is - I'm unable to connect from an outside source (for quick testing purposes, my laptop on friend's wireless).

Ver 2.1c
Self Test is OK
Port Forward is OK
External IP lookup matches website lookups
Local LAN is able to connect to the server (both internal IP and external)

I've tried shutting down ZoneAlarm (not using Windows' one), putting myself in the DMZ, shutting down the Router firewall... Nothing works.  I've also tried setting HFS on my media comp (2nd computer) but it's also on the same router - meh...

Also, I've tried Easy File Server - that gave me the same problem.

So any suggestion would be appreciated.

from your description i hardly understand the scheme.
anyway, if the self test is OK, then is the client (browser) who has problem.
you can try giving as the IP of your HFS and we'll test.

What do you mean by scheme? My purpose? Just setting up a few files to share with friends around the world :)

I had no problem connecting to your site (http://65.182.42.43:1985).  All that was there was an empty text file.  Attached is a copy of your HFS page ...

Thanks Maverick.  Seems the problem's on my friend's wireless then.

Any suggestions? Would his router be setup in some way to reject allowing someone to access my file server?

I may be wrong but I think that someone has to enable wireless connections to the home network.  (whoever's network it is - your's or your friend's).

I don't use this, but here is a quote from the wireless setup page from my HS modem/router

Of course, there are other options to configure as well.
