to force people to login from the beginning, just protect the root itself.
"restricted access" on the home item

No rejetto that doesn't work.  As long as the user knows a valid url (which he would get just by browsing the site) and uses ~login in the browser location bar, he gets in at that location bypassing the main page.  Bookmarks could also be setup that way.

I tested locally:  hxxp://127.0.0.1/valid directory name/~login.  Might take two login attempts but you are in at any directory you want with the root protected.

he didn't roundly ask for being impossible to access directly to an inner resource,
but to get the login form since the beginning.

I'll check the "restricted access" but it seems to me you wouldn't 've the possibility to have a "public" folder accessible to anyone then, am I wrong ?

Would that fit also, or is it subject to the "ping-pong-effect" Maverick was speaking of  ;D
How to redirect user to the original page they tried to view before login after they are logged in (http://qhtimes.com/aspexamples/login.asp?page=/aspexamples/login_redirect.asp)
