greetings!
i have done every possible way unfortunately i am unable to get the app to work. now, could it be any chance that the problem is my os? i'm currently using windows xp home with sp2 + all the latest updates except for ie7. could it be possible that the app will only work on xp pro with iss installed?
thanks all.
-
no, i have your same configuration.
"not working" is generic. describe your problem.
-
my router is zyxel prestige 643. i have followed the instructions in portforward.com but still no luck.
i have, say 192.168.0.1, is my computer's ip addy. then i have 2 other ips. with http://www.whatismyip.org/ it displays, say 20.10.2.30. and the other with www.dyndns.com is 202.137.112.7.
now, the ip addy 20.10.2.30, is i believe my router because i can access it outside my house (via the internet). i'm not sure what the 202.137.112.7 is but i can ping it even when my router is turned off (when i'm in a cybercafe or office). but under http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/ it displayed as Proxy Server IP Address.
best regards
btw, if it helps, whenever i click 'find external address' it displays either the 20.10.2.30 or the 202.137.112.7
also, when i enter http://202.137.112.7/ it displays 'ther equested url could not be retrieved' but if i make it http://202.137.112.7:8080/ it shows 'page could not be displayed'

1. what version of HFS are you using?
2. what does the "self test" say?
-
1. v2.1a build # 060
2. The test failed: server does not answer
You are behind a router
Ensure it is configured to forward port 8080 to your computer.
thanks
-
do you have other apps working, that needed port forwardeding on your router?
-
no or atleast i dont think so. does instant messengers needs port forwarding? right now whats running are conquer online, yahoo messenger, msn messenger, hfs and some ie.
-
Are you trying to run HFS from a library in somewhere in AU?
Maybe there's a firewall/proxy/router you don't control?
-
nope. i run it at my house. my av have no firewall and i have disabled windows' and my router's as well.
-
the point is: you followed the guide on portforward, but nothing assure us you made no mistake. something may be wrong in your router configuration. :(
-
yea i guess but forwarding a port should be that easy, right? and there is only one entry: port==8080, address==192.168.0.1 and thats it.
btw, could it be possible that the problem is with my isp? like they have disabled or blocked something? if so, what could it be?
i also hope there are other users of prestige 643 here who are able to make the app work. inputs are highly appreciated.
best regards.

One thing I notice is that the addy 192.168.0.1 is very likely your router, not the
computer you are using. The computer addy should be somewhere between
192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199. It works best for me BTW, to assign a static addy
in my router to the computer HFS is on. Othewise the router will reassign one sometimes.
The 202.137.112.7 sounds more like your IP. There should be a page in your router config.
that shows you the external IP address assigned to you by your ISP ?
I'd turn off the remote administration, and reassign a port in HFS. Try something like
9xx, then after checking that this is not assigned by the router to something else,
port forward private port, say 901 and public port 901. Turn off all firewalls and try
self test. If it works, it should work from anywhere.
-
are you sure 192.168.0.1 is you and not your router?
and yes, your ISP may be involved in the problem, you can ask them if this is the case.
-
hello. sorry for the late reply. it was almost 2am in my country when i last posted.
@guest
192.168.0.1 is my computer's ip addy. 192.168.0.253 is my router's lan ip addy. 20.10.2.30 is my router's wan ip addy.
The 202.137.112.7 sounds more like your IP.
as far as i know that cant be used as a private ip addy. it should be non-routable like 192.168.x.x
@rejetto
yup. very sure.
if i'm gonna ask my isp, what will i be asking them? any specifics would really help. you know how tech supps are...
-
tell them you can't accept TCP connections, that is, can't run a server over the internet.
i truly have no other advice.
-
ok. will do that. thanks and i'll post back whatever their reply is.
thanks again
-
ok. i've finally talked to the sysadmin of my isp. according to the guy there should be no problem whatsoever. but he said i should install iss for it to work. and as far as i know iss is only available in winxp pro and not home.
anyway, i'll try installing xp pro on a spare hard drive and see what happens. in the mean time, i'm still hoping anyone here is using my brand and model of router who successfuly got it to work.
best regards
-
IIS ? that guy thought you don't have the server software, and that's not true, you have HFS.
ok, maybe reinstalling will fix the problem, who knows.
-
192.168.0.1 is your computer not your router address ?
This is what running ipconfig /all in the Windows run/command tells you ?
According to Port Foward.com the address used to access your router ZyXEL Prestige 643
is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 , they're saying thats the router address, and I've never
heard of a router changing its address. (yet!-this may be a first)
Strange....
http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 in your browser doesn't bring up your router

@guest
your talking about the default. as portforward.com implied, by default its... and yes, its a first for me too if it changed by itself.
best regards
-
btw, will my site supposedly be accessed immediately or do i have to wait for hour for my ip to propagate in the net?
-
immediately

You asked for help, so at least you could answer the following questions:
Q: Did you read the manual? http://www.zyxel.com/DownloadLibary_ShortName/P-643/user_guide/P-643_2.50.pdf
Q: Can you acess your router on the web interface at 192.168.1.1 ?
"3.1 ... factory preset is 192.168.1.1 ...."
Q: Can you acces the web interface, the default password is 1234?
Q: What is the IP address assigned by the DHCP server for the PC HFS is running on"...starting from 192.168.1.33...to 192.168.1.64"? WinXP: Start, Run: cmd: ipconfig /all
Q: Did you read chapter 3.14.2 and following?
Q: What is the IP address in the router web interface menu 4 -Internet Access Setup-, (this is your outside address)?
If you want to get answers, you should also supply the information to help...

Did you read the manual? http://www.zyxel.com/DownloadLibary_ShortName/P-643/user_guide/P-643_2.50.pdf
yup. i try to do everything on my own and by reading posts before asking for help. this avoids asking questions that have already been answered.
Can you acess your router on the web interface at 192.168.1.1 ?
"3.1 ... factory preset is 192.168.1.1 ...."
yes. i have changed the lan ip to 192.168.254.253. so the default no longer works.
Can you acces the web interface, the default password is 1234?
yes but not 1234 since my isp changed the password. i just used it's mac id instead.
What is the IP address assigned by the DHCP server for the PC HFS is running on"...starting from 192.168.1.33...to 192.168.1.64"? WinXP: Start, Run: cmd: ipconfig /all
dhcp has been disabled.
Did you read chapter 3.14.2 and following?
yup. i dont have to do anything there because my isp configured it for me.
What is the IP address in the router web interface menu 4 -Internet Access Setup-, (this is your outside address)?
you mean my wan ip?
If you want to get answers, you should also supply the information to help...
sorry. i thought i already did on my first and follow-up posts.
anyways, i've already requested my isp to change my router settings to a modem type. i guess this eliminates the port forwarding matter. i'll try later tonight what happens.
thanks all
-
"anyways, i've already requested my isp to change my router settings to a modem type. i guess this eliminates the port forwarding matter. i'll try later tonight what happens."
I do not understand this request. Can your ISP change your router settings??!!
After having read the manual and this thread over again, i would do the following:
1. fully reset the zyxel modem/router to the factory defaults (make sure you've a backup of the data provided by your ISP like pwd, primary and secondary DNS, protocol type in case this is not managed automatically with booting up the router
2. After the reboot check that you've connectivity to the Internet.
3. Keep DHCP for assigning the IP adresses of your machine(s) DHCP=Server Chapter 3.8
4. Choose SUA chapter 3.14
5. Chapter 3.15 is the portforwarding stuff: find the ip of the PC running HFS, if you have only one machine connected it should be 192.168.1.33 assigned by DHCP of your router.
The list of page 3-19 should read:
Menu 15 - SUA Server Setup
Port# IP Address
80 192.168.1.33
(you now have forwarded port 80 from the WAN side of your router to port 80 of the PC with ip 192.168.1.33, where HFS should listen and serve the requests)
6. Run HFS on port 80
8. Change any settings in the router back to your needs.
If this does not work, check/update the firmware of your router.

yey!
everything is finally ok! my isp just changed the settings of my router to bridge. whew! thanks guys for your patience and advices.
crappy thing about this setup is i can only use 1 pc at a time. but thats ok
thanks again.
-
Nice to hear :)
But now you have to buy a new router to get more PCs connected to the Internet.
Nice ISP you have ;) : AFAIK, bridging just deactivates the router functionality of your Zyxel ADSL-modem-router.
But if you can live with that it's fine, but i would try to figure it out ...
