Hello. I want to run a fileserver with just streaming music, for my family. I want to disable the downloading of music. How do I do this?
Basically, I have the flash MP3 streamer next to every song. I want to disable certain users from downloading the songs, but not from streaming them. How do I accomplish this??
Thank you,
Darryl

Hello
One of the things that would work nicely is to create a *wpl as explain here [page1] :

P.s I think I left a Trip-Hop playlist as a sample

I have been reading that entire thread and have settled on the MP3 flash streamer as the best solution, as I have 8,000 songs and it's too hard to organize them into playlists by folder. Plus, it's for my family, just as a safeguard that my daughter doesn't give out music to friends, as that would be illegal. I just need a way to disable downloads. Does that exist??
Thanks,
Darryl

Well if U don't find out the perfect solution, here is a tip :
Use this little m3u generator : http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php?topic=3807.0
do a scan either per disc/directories/folders ... set it up with winamp 2x and link the m3u playlist to virtual Hfs.
You 'll amazed how fast it does the job : works perfectly IE and FF
Sample done of the fly on the spot : TH Full discography (http://82.)

Edit : I'll leave the link only for a short time Rejetto !

what you are searching for is just an edited template with NO link to the file, but just the flash player.
anyway, this way it is always technically possible to download the file, it is just harder. because what the flash player do, is to download the mp3. if the player can, the kid can as well. it is just harder, but i guess it is enough for you.
you have to edit the [file] or maybe [file.mp3] section of the template.
there you find a link made this way <a>song title</a>
you have to remove the <a> tags so it is not a link anymore.

Also, even if the download link isn't obviously accessable, the file still has to be downloaded first so the flash player can play it and once that happens, the music file can be recovered complete from the browser's cache folder or the temporary internet file folder.
