Title: new user help upload download
Post by: herbiman on October 09, 2006, 10:56:38 AM
I'm a very new user, so let me apologize in advance for posting on the wrong board, asking for the impossible etc.

But I make absolutely no apologies for using this software, it is brilliant!

However, I'm experiencing problems in that some users from England (I'm in Demark) can donload upload to me, but one in the usa can't.
1. Is it possible that I could publish my server adress on this board, and have it tested?
(Obviously i don't want to risk hacker/spammer attack.) It would be wonderful if there was some automatic mechanism ( aplace on the board) where you could semi-automatically test upload/download. I am aware of the self-test.

2. I'm using version 2.0b build 034. Is there a better version? I thought I'd make sure evrything worked before fiddling with this.

My message seemed to get truncated. It continues:

3. I'd like to use a different template. The one called hfs clean looks like what i want.
If i do this, do i increase the risk of my hfs not functioning properly, or is guaranteed
to work (within reason)

1. yes, it is possible, but of course posting your address increase the risk of exploiting. anyway HFS 2.0b has no known security bug.

the self-test is virtually everything you need to know if your HFS works well on the internet. if it works for some people but doesn't work for ONE user, then it is not your problem, but probably of the user.

3. i can't grant anything about other templates. i can't grant even if they will work with future versions.

Thank you so much for your swift, helpful reply. What i was hoping for, of course, was a private place or email where i could pass my webpage adress safely.

But I totally understand if you don't want to do this: you must work v. hard and the results are fantastic!

we are talking on two thread. Suggest we close this one, and stick to Documentation project!

on the "documentation project" topic, we can talk only about documentation.
we won't talk there about your HFS problems.
i think it is correct to have two threads and stay in-topic.
