Title: Link my webpage to HFS
Post by: madeira.sergio on June 15, 2006, 07:39:23 PM
Is there any way to create a link in my webpage so that people can download material, videos, etc?

My question is because IP i think normally changes from time to time, or at leat it changes every time i connect to the internet, and the ideia is that the link in my webpage is allways working.

Thanks

Register at no-ip.com or DynDNS create DNS account to redirect your domain to your IP. You have to install program that will tell no-ip.com what is your current IP, I'm useing Casc Adsl but you can use the original programs that both sites provide

Links for Casc'ADSL

After you register and no-ip or DynDNS you don't need to extra pogram to update the IP. HFS does it itself. Just input your settings into Menu > Dynamic DNS Updater.

Sorry I forgot about this option though i used it for a while. I only mentioned the other program because i'm useing it and i like the extras like Ping,PortScan,NetStat etc. So I will try to explain in few words how DNS technology works. When you have dynamic IP the only way to linked it to a web site is to have a way to tell it what is your current ip. The DNS sites are the free choice, those two that i mentioned earlier are the most popular. When you register, you have to create/add host/redirect it will looks like this youname.no-ip.org ore some thing like it.You can create as many hosts as you want but all of them will redirect to your IP

Quit
Sorry for my bad english

Thanks to all for your help and time

I have been able to create an account in DynamicDNS with myname.dyndns.biz but when I have HFS working and have just a test1.jpg image there isn't the idea to write in any browser for example: http://myname.dyndns.biz/test1.jpg

If i write that I can't see anything, in fact if I write only http://myname.dyndns.biz it also doesn't show anything.

I'm i missing something???

BTW:In Dynamic DNS updates if I do that once will he automateclly upload my new ip every time he changes or must i keep doing that??

Thanks to all
:)

you should "sugest " to the hfs that the file "test1.jpg" is the the file of the root-page of your site
in the vfs do right click on the root (/) and in Default File Mask put test1.jpg

i hope it helps
sorry about my poor english.

ensure your HFS is working by using the "self test".
Then, ensuring your dyndns is actually updated with your IP address.
