Hello,
I am dialed from home into my company servers via VPN access. When I start HFS when I am tunneled into the company, I cannot seem to get any other external computers to connect into HFS. Is ther a trick to making it work?
Any help is appreciated. This is an awesome software.
TIA

1. do you want to be visible by the internet or just the company LAN ?
2. did you already try to use the self test ? what did it say?

Hi,
Thanks so much for a quick reply.
1. I want to be visible to the internet primariliy, but would not mind learning how to be visible on company LAN.
2. I ran a self test and it came back with error:
The test failed: server does not answer.
You maybe behind a router.
Thanks

then you are probably behind a router.
1. see the address HFS show when you start it.
2. then use find external address.
if they are different, then you are behind a router for sure.

Hi again,
Thanks for your observation.
I am behind a router at home, and know how to use the find external IP, and to make it work.
It is the other laptop I am having trouble with, which connects from my home high speed ISP to my work computers via a secure VPN connection. Yes, the IP's are different.
My questions is whether this nice piece of software is capable of working in the my scenario?
Also, since I am on a company LAN as soon as I VPN into it, how would I find out the pieces of information I would need, such as port forwarding etc.
I would love to get this to work in my situation.
Thanks

sure it can work,
but for every network crossing you need necessary routing configuration.
not always you can configure routers, because not always you have the necessary rights.
i also use HFS via VPN,
my laptop --vpn-- server --internet-- clients
but this is only the topology for incoming connections, thus HFS can't find the right external address, i must input it manually.
information for port forwarding are available on www.portforward.com
