Title: small problem
Post by: Anonymous on March 16, 2006, 03:42:35 PM
I've run into a problem when I try to access my hfs server at home
from my employer's corporate network.
When I put in user name and password in the pop up login, the
password is not acepted.
It doesn't matter which user and password I use. It doesn't matter
that no password is required for that user name.
I can log in on any number of other personal use sites, bank, email,
etc. These all have the login embeded in the web page.I don't know
that this would solve the problem, I'm not even sure it is related to
hfs, but does any one know if there is a way to embed the login,
and stop using the pop up ?
Thanks..

did you actually set a password for your HFS files?
because i suspect the one asking you for password is your router and not HFS

I don't think its my router, but that would be easy to check. I'll
just try my router user name and password.
I've made a lot of changes since I checked hfs at home from
a remote location, other than work, but the last time I did, I
could log in with no problem. I'll check it sometime later
today, from a location other than work.
Thanks

if you report the realm reported by your browser, it may be enough.
it may be displayed inside the dialog or in the title, it depends on your browser.

In some rare cases, a (corporate) firewall is configured to filter certain buzz words. If your (base64 encoded) username or password matches that word, it will not arrive at your server. There is only a small chance that this is the reason, but you'll never know.

I checked from another location, and everything works great.
The realm is hfs, not router.
Its likely something on that network, thats why I wonder why
it affects hfs, but not anything else.
The only thing different is the windows pop up style login.
That network uses Novell login, not Windows.
Thats why I'm wondering if it could be changed to an
"embeded" style?
Thanks..

it is not just a style, it is a way of doing, a technology
and it is the only way supported by HFS at the moment.

indeed, it could be embedded, with javascript, as i told somewhere else, but i doubt this would solve. i don't think the problem is in the dialog box.
