Just tried it.  I didn't get a popup at all.

But DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! DAMN! - I am now REALLY pissed right off !!!!!

After using that shell option to add a file to HFS from explorer, it DELETED - WITHOUT ANY KIND OF WARNING or BACKUP my hfs.ini and hfs.tpl files !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I have to start all over again.  Re-configure HFS, and try to re-do my customized template to where it was.

rejetto - you must check this.  I spent hours on my template and now it's gone.  You must have some kind of safeguards built into that shell option or something so this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

there already are safeguards built in... you just didn't use them.
There is an option to automatically save the file system every so often... if you had activated this chances are, this wouldn't have happened.

I always keep an extra copy of my template around just in case... you should definitely try backing up everything that's important to you.

Auto Save is active on exit (vfs & options).  As my hfs.ini and hfs.tpl didn't exist because they were deleted, on exit HFS had nothing else to save but  the "default" settings and template.

But that's not the point.  Something better should be done with that shell option that caused this problem - a warning, a backup option, deleted to the recycle bin, or something so that the recent files could be recovered.

HFS should not just delete files making them unrecoverable without first giving a notification and option of  either yes or no.  Not to just go ahead and delete things behind your back.

HFS not loaded. (thought it was but that shouldn't matter).  Add file to HFS.

the problem, i guess, is about HFS saving ini file to the (initial) working path.
i made a change, now it will always load/save from the same folder where hfs.exe lies
this should solve.

anyway, backups are always a good thing. i always backup cfg files for the software i use (opera, pspad, etc). this saved me many times. never fully trust software ;)
