Title: Question about limits
Post by: mario_a on December 12, 2005, 05:28:06 PM
Hi,

What would be the reasonable Limits to set for the following options, considering I have a 256 Kbps (upload speed) connection ?

1) Max Connections
2) Max connections from single address
3) Max contemporary downloads
4) Max contemporary downloads from single address

What are the typical web server values for the above limits ?

Thanks,
Mario

Yes those settings are personal as it all depends on how much upload bandwidth you have available as that amount of bandwidth is shared by all who are on your server at the same time.  If you set those limits to high and you have slow upload bandwidth to begin with, the users on your server will experience slow responses and transfer speeds.  On the otherhand, if you have unlimited upload bandwidth you can be very creative...

i would consider limiting speed to 80% of whole bandwidth
or 90%

this because in TCP the downstream needs some upstream to work

ok 256kbps / 8 = 32Kilobytes a sec so I would suggest limiting HFS to use only 25Kilobytes a sec globally leaving 7kilobytes a sec for internet use which is all you need for that but if you play online games I would suggest turning off HFS hehe LAG CITY!
