Title: Cannot Upload certain file types
Post by: Darkbee on September 01, 2005, 07:15:40 PM
A user just successfully uploaded some MP3's and JPG's to my HFS server but when they tried to upload an EXE or RAR file they got a "page not found" error in their browser.

Is this a security feature of HFS, that it won't allow uploads of certain file types?

I just had the option to allow anyone to upload (i.e. I wasn't using the "users" feature) and my server was running on port 81.

I'm using v2..0 beta 23.

I just tried to upload EXE and ZIP file types on my own computer and it worked but I suspect this isn't really a good test.

I could understand if my user couldn't upload any files at all but some files seem to work and some don't.  Could it be a character encoding problem?

i don't think the problem is in HFS but elsewhere

I also have this problem, everything else works fine, but EXE's just will not upload. A quick work around is to zip them.

It sounds like their connection to your hfs timed out or something similar, did you try more then once?

Also what does the log show when you try?

I agree with Foggy, I had this yesterday during testing when I was already logged in and had upload disabled on my account right before chosing to upload a file, it didnt matter what format.  Might be related, not sure.

I think its more policies or settings on that computer more than the build of HFS, I have 137, havent tryed any .exe's, when I get home I'll give it a shot.. where is this computer your using, business, home etc...

For the .EXE and .ZIP part...

Many Antivirus software programs block the download of .EXE and others for security until scanned. Your Antivirus software may be one of them.

The realtime scanner of the server's Antivirus scans .EXE files and a few others when they are uploaded to the server. It takes some time and may be the cause for timing-out connections.

Yes, i was thinking the exact same thing. Same as for MSN, my anti virus software somehow found it neccesary to 'block' certain messages if they contained html code. Just disable your antivirus for a moment and try it again.
