Title: Virtual Folder Hits Column
Post by: Anonymous on October 24, 2004, 07:27:32 PM
What is the purpose of the Hits Column in the virtual folder main page and the virtual sub-folder page?  Hits aren't counted and remain at 0.

The files "inside" these virtual folders show hits properly and are counted correctly and that is the way it should be.

As there is no purpose for a Hits Column in Virtual and Sub-Virtual folder pages, as the hits aren't counted and remain at 0, can the hits column be removed on the virtual folder main pages but still remain on the files page within the folders where the hits are actually counted?

Look at the F.A.Q, when searching for the item-dl-count match, delete the code only for the [folder] section. Good Luck! :)
It's actual downloads, not hits... btw

That is true until HFS is re-started.  Doesn't look like HFS is saving this information as file download hits show 0 after HFS is re-started.  Beta 3.  Looks like a bug.

well, i fixed this bug, but...there's a problem

the bug was: the download count was reset, just because
- the count is inside the VFS
- when the count changes, the VFS is not flagged as modified (similar to another bug fixed lately)
- the VFS is not automatically saved because it is not flagged as modified

i now fixed flagging the VFS each time the download counter is modified, but someone may find this to be boring, because i guess most people is not prone to think that the counter is part of the VFS, and they will see the "VFS is changed" message when they think the VFS is not actually changed.

do you think it will be a problem?

Right now, it is hard to say if it will be a problem without trying it out.  Put your fix in the next beta release and let us try it to see how it behaves.

Another problem - download counts don't seem to be saved in real folders once HFS is restarted.  Wasn't this fixed in one of the alpha releases?  I thought I read that somewhere but I just can't find it now.

You sure are quick.  Keep up the good work.

If you can do it, I would say yes.  That way you would have uniformity throughout the HFS pages.  If a file is removed from a real folder, the file count would be removed also.

I think it would be a good idea.
