Title: Using it in the Internet

I don't know what to do.
My HTTP File Server 1.5g doesn't work in the internet.
My friends can't open it.
 I have windows XP and I closed my Firewall.
It won't work. What shall I do to make it all right? :(

does it say "ON" ?
what port # do you see ?
what is the IP it assigns to you ?
are you behind a router ?
and how does your friend write your address ?

your probably using a router....  you need to forward the port your using in HTTP file server in the router admin page!  it works the same if your running an ftp server!

It shows port 40 or 8080. I can change it.
How can I present the HP? Copy the URL and
then I sent it to my friends but just then

is this how it looks - http://11.12.13.14:8080/ ?
It should work if you do not have a filrewall... if you do - you have to permit access in it.

Hmmm I am German I don't know what is a permit access.
When I turned off my firewall, I got a virus and I
had to formate my comp.

"permit" = do a port forwarding to the port (8080?)  you use for the HFS if you are behind a router (inside hte router) ...

And in the firewall - it depends on which filrewall. it has a way you can
define a "rule" for allowing  TCP incoming traffic to the HFS port.
If is not wise to to turn the firewall off (as you noticed... ;) )

Hi, Michael Homeister


Most firewalls would ask you, if you would like to allow the "hfs" program to connect to the internet. At the time it asks you that question, you  can say "Yes". If you said "No", you can still open the firewall program and look for the "hfs" or similar name  listed as not allowed to access the internet and you can just change that to "Yes" allow that program to acces the internet.

One other thing. I think you have to be sharing something before someone else can see it.  You can run a simple test youreself. Just run the  "hfs" program and select something to share. Then use the Browse option so that you can see the contents that are being shared. If you see the things that you want to share on your Internet Explorer Browser , then some one else, for example your friend should be able to see it when you send him the IP that "hfs" is telling you to use. Good luck.

Hmmm.
Apache Web Server doesn't work to.
I use Port 80 8080 41 and so on. In the LAN it works.
What's about the serious Error in this Program.
If I set the Speed Limit in 5 Kbs or else and my friends want to
change websites quickly theres an error.
I have to restart the Program and it works again.
