Hi,
I have a friend who sent me a HFS adress
and there is 1000 folders on it
I wish i could download them all or many at the same time
Is it possible? , how can i do it
I can't seem to be able
Where do i click?
Thank you!
-
if its the default template, the archive button should work, it tar bals and "zips" the content at that path into a single downloaded file
-
Thank you for your reply but when i click on "Archive" what it do is it opens a page with look like a "notepad" list of everything , you know its only a list, its not a zip file that opens, or tar or wathever
please
do you want the adress ?
-
the only other method i can think of is to use a tool such a w - get
here is a gui based verson for windows:

^
remove spaces for w g e t ....

ok today I clicked on archive and now it's working , I don't know what made it work but it works! 450gb in one click ! insane!
Thanks for the help
W-get was only downloading a "index.Html" file by the way

@zpoison: always be considerate when doing this, and if you do this, keep in mind this will hog the system resources of the server (when it's building the tar), will consume disk space and you will 'eat' the connection speed of the server owner. So, use it with care and responsibly. ;)

Thank you but in fact....
the Guy wrote me a message and said i broke his hard drive
I don't get why
but if I look at his torrents , the old ones seems to be stalled , that would means it's true !
my god

Oh, too bad! :-\ That surely happened since he doesn't had enough disk space on the hard disk to build the TAR file. I figured he had a 1 TB disk, and he had 450 GB shared, but you've ate up another 450 GB of his free space when building the TAR, so his HDD was filled to the maximum (and that surely crashed his system). I currently don't know if HFS checks if the space is enough before building the TAR (if it's not implemented, I think Rejetto should add it).
-
My god! that means he was going through 450GB ! i mean, to me is no big deal but if he had a 500GB HDD it may have took all the space..
it should not take the space in the PC of the owner, it should be in the cloud like many others
its like, not convenient at all
same fot the speed : if it was in the cloud the speed would not care, but its direct from the user
I did not knew it was direct from him

Yes, well, don't worry now, at least he is your friend and you could say him "sorry". But imagine the damage you could do to if you do this to someone you don't know (and when someone who is kindly sharing his files, finds out someone tried to download everything, filling up his HDD or crashing his system). That's why I've said to always use this feature in a 'responsibly' way.... :P

it was a the first time i contacted him
a russian
I sent him a message asking him to put his .torrent files in one folder and zip it ans send it to me, but he sent me this HFS adress instead, so I tried to get the files you know
Second message he sent me ever was " you broke my HDD , no more sharing !
that's it !
there is something wrong with HFS
his share list was 1000 files long, i could not wait one month of clicking on folders to get them slowly
torrents are so much more convenients, my god

Then, you've lost your 'friend', sorry... :-\ I guess 'bmartino1' should've warned you about this, but he forgot it, and I was late to give you advice.

You could have used FlashGet (or FlashGot for Firefox). That way load the whole file list on FlashGet, and then you download whatever you want easily. For example, you could select 200 files with one click and FlashGet/FlashGot will download them one-by-one for you (with minimal intervention on your side).

Talking about bandwidth and file distribution, torrents wins over HFS. HFS is more oriented for sharing files between a small size of users. Using HFS, if the server owners has an internet of 20Mbps of upload speed and 20 users are downloading files, each user gets 1Mbps. Using torrents you get way more speed, since the file distribution is different (you download from someone who is sharing a file, called "seed" and also from someone who is downloading the same file like you, called "peers"). When using HFS the distribution is direct, from server to user.

not much i can do , even with a warning, i was writing to a client, not the one hosting a server... :(

But it's me the client who took to much apparently
the person is a russian, no newegg there i think

Yes, it was actually a 'shared' fault. The server owner should have the TAR/Archive feature disabled or the client should ask if is allowed to pack and download all the files, both cases are impractical. So, this is something it would be great if rejetto add to HFS by default, a simple script/macro which calculates if the free space is enough to allow someone to use the TAR/Archive feature. If space is too low, then TAR/Archive is automatically disabled (or an error is shown). I hope he reads this. :)

That's what I thought, but according to Google (https://www.google.com/search?q=Which+is+the+most+common+russian+technology+online+market&sa=N), Aliexpress.com (http://www.aliexpress.com/) is the leading (https://www.internetretailer.com/2015/06/23/alibaba-says-its-aliexpresscom-leading-retail-site-ru) retail site in Russia (http://russiansearchmarketing.com/russian-online-shopping-top-10-eretailers/), but the prices must be higher (https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-Hard-Drive-3TB.html). If you care too about him (and you can afford), I guess he will continue being your friend if you send him a HDD as gift. :P

Remember, there is no cloud. It's just someone else's computer!
No matter what the server, if you make a 450 GB copy, it needs to go somewhere.
(As several suggested, using a downloader program would scan for a list of all the files on the server, and then would request them all one by one for download, so there would be no server-side copy. The "Archive" feature zips all the individual files into one large single file, and then downloads that one file, thus it does require a copy on the server.)
