Title: Ping increases too much on download
Post by: ehsanelahimirza on July 05, 2014, 07:48:22 AM
Hi

if someone is downloading using IDM then server/network ping increases too much and all other network services like internet slows down badly. if we limit no. of simultaneous download, user's IDM keeps trying on different ports and HFS hangs.

i think there must be some option like Block connections from an IP if certain no. of download is in progress, in my case, if user is downloading one file, no more sessions or connections should be allowed. (Just like Ban IP, if we use this option, an IP is blocked and IDM requests dont reach the server and network ping remains OK)

Issues with IDM (http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/articles/vista-idm.html) not HFS, possible how your machien is connected to your network before IDM's use...

Only thing in hfs that may help is:
(see pic)

Do a test:

real blocking is not possible for HFS, it justs closes incoming connecitons.
What you are experiencing sounds like a form of (unintentional) DoS attack. It's a common problem even for big servers.
It must be solved at a different level. Configuring IDM (that is: solving at source) could be an easy option.
