On ipad:
Pics work fine but when I click on link to mp3 it doesn't work.
I found a suggestion on forum to disable Prevent leeching, but doesn't seem to make a difference.
Also, when I right click and save to target, it gives me a HTML file rather than mp3.
Any thoughts?

welcome!
1. does it work on your PC instead?
2. does clicking mp3s on other wesites work?
here is a link for your convenience http://rejetto.com/me/data/Baltimora%201849.mp3

yes, i can stream mp3s from specific urls from websites. with my ipad.
hfs server is working nicely on my computer, and i can access photos, pdfs, word files, etc with my ipad. however, when i click on a link to a mp3, its not working at all.
before i mentioned right-clicking..i mean when i right click on mp3 link with windows computer to save file, it downloads a html file, not mp3. does this make anything clear?
-
oh, im getting different right-click behavior with different windows computer -- its giving me the mp3 file.
so disregard previous info.
but still, cant open mp3s with ipad.
if i copy link and use ipad download app i can get mp3s, however.
has anybody been able to stream mp3s with an ipad?

try this
menu > other options > open directly in browser
add ;*.mp3 to the others
-
i tried that, but no change.
i also added: audio/mpeg3 to the mime type list. when i do that i get a "play" button triangle with a cross through it. without this i just get a "cannot play" message.

Hi,
Does this URL look openable?
http://76.171.236.134:81/Willie%20Nelson%20-%20Blues%20Eyes%20Crying%20In%20The%20Rain.mp3
Not working thru iPad with safari or icab.
But I can open something like this on iPad / safari:
http://mydomain.com/songs/All%20Along%20The%20Watchtower.mp3
-
yes, it's openable, even if on my Chrome doesn't work. On anything else does.
i also added: audio/mpeg3 to the mime type list. when i do that i get a "play" button triangle with a cross through it. without this i just get a "cannot play" message.
oh yes! why didn't it think of the mime first...
Try googling for the crossed play button in ipad.

hi,
havent figured it out. if i turn on the error messages on safari it says: "quicktime not supported" when i click on HFS link to mp3. i understand that the iPad doesnt use quicktime application...
however, mp3s hosted on different websites play just fine.
so i cant figure out why it is treating things differently.
anyway, work in progress. any suggestions?

The problem is probably in the difference between the two http headers (the working one and the non-working one).
Can you provide two links, a working one and (hfs) non-working one?

Has this issue been solved? I have recently found out that some friends can not download MP3 files from my HFS server to their iPads. Since finding out I have added ;*.mp3 to 'open directly in browser' and audio/mpeg3 to the MIME type list. Unfortunately, I do not have an iPad to test this myself! Is there anything else that I need to do?

I would have her try a hfs template that can support it, from an earlier post i replied to, i was able to do this on all device with this template:
hfs template: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9u5dgydfOEuV3Q4WnZDbkxUTlk/edit?usp=sharing
this is hfs live template , in hfs it will launch a flash/java based player in which the ipad will open a program, other wise she will have to leave her hfs the same and make and play a m3u file that connects to her hfs that is sharing the files...

for you to test with your ipad, i have reinstated the old accoun and teh folder/files are there...

if you are unable to play the files you will have to make a m3u file...

for mac stuff:
Correct MIME types for serving video files
We test video playback on a variety of devices, from Mac and Windows PCs, to all the various mobile phone platforms available today. One critical issue that comes up often is that the hosting server has not set the MIME types for the video type. A typical error message for this would be “unknown application/octet-stream”. Here is a list of many common formats we encounter.
Video Type Extension MIME Type
Flash .flv video/x-flv
MPEG-4 .mp4 video/mp4
iPhone Index .m3u8 application/x-mpegURL
iPhone Segment .ts video/MP2T
3GP Mobile .3gp video/3gpp
QuickTime .mov video/quicktime
A/V Interleave .avi video/x-msvideo
Windows Media .wmv video/x-ms-wmv
