Can someone point me to some clear and concise directions on how to install these templates?

0. ensure you are using HFS 2.3 (not 2.2, that's the current official version)
1. download the template as it is (zip file)
2. unzip it
3. drag & drop the .tpl file on HFS window
3. answer "yes" to the dialog


am i correct?

Yeah that is how you do it, and to change the theme open the .tpl in notepad and enter one of the valid values.
