Title: Translations
Post by: TSG on January 16, 2008, 05:43:59 PM
ALL translations of our templates or applications can be submitted to RAWR-Designs. It is even easier in the templates that support language files.

Please keep in mind, I cannot update these language files. So I will add the changes to the file myself in English. And anyone who gives me a language file will be required to update it when I release. I will post an archive of the updated languages on the forum here.

Ye I am waiting for a nice solution for translations with some sort of language switch, like my theme switch, but until then i have the problem of people posting the template in full translations.

I thank the unknown Chinese person for translating ToG, Terayon and RAWR-Template-0.0.1 (if you have time can you do RAWR-Template-0.0.2) to Chinese ;) I will post them on the homepage soon, for now you can get them here.

If you have translated a template, just contact me in some way and I will give you instructions to submit the files to that directory.

Thank you SilentPliz I have put it in a template package. I think i will work on creating a language file for the new template. So it will be just a matter of flicking a switch, if anyone wants to show me how to do it my msn is also my email address on my profile.

The next build of RAWR-Template will have language files. Attached is the English language file for you to use as a template.

It is easy to do, just translate the text after the '=' sign. There is a couple more variables to come, I just posted this as an example.

I can't get the {{load}} macro to work with file paths at the moment, so this has to be pasted in [special:strings] until this is possible.

So far there is one part that i can't change really. The check update feature. This is a private feature users of the site cannot see it, so i guess you can just pick up that a new build is out by the build number. Other than that i think i am almost ready to release again, i just need a couple of bug fixes...

Ok, it is ready for translation. Please take care with your translation to not destroy the look of the template. There are a few minor things here and there that cannot be translated, but the majority of the template can be translated.

Download the template and use the English language file. If you would like your language in the next release of the RAWR-Template, this is your chance. Attach the language file to the forum, or contact me.

Please take care to fill in the gaps and not remove any HTML in the strings, they are there for a reason. Also do not touch any macro that appear in there. They are important.

Have fun. ;)

i don't think macros are expanded in such file.
it is just loaded in memory and never executed.
so you can insert comments in the way you like, avoiding {{comment}}

Ok, for the 0.0.3 release I currently have:

en_au - English Australian

I have fired off some emails to get possible French, Spanish, Chinese, German(or close readable translation, eg, Dutch or both w/e lol) and Italian language files. I am interested to get a Russian translation aswell, that way we cover most of the main languages I have seen in the HFS community.

The file is in the post above or here for those pro-active enough to translate it for me.

here is my suggestion for german. i'm not sure if it is good, cause i've translated a lot of things to native german words while a lot of people use the english ones. for example there is no german equivalent for "the download / the upload" but for "downloading / uploading" or "to download / to upload" - so a lot of them also use the english verb ... i translated the existing equivalents where it was possible and good. there are other words i would never translate, but others could have a different opinion. for example "footer" or "shoutbox". i hope another native german speaker could review it and edit it if necessary :-)

Post by: TSG on January 28, 2008, 05:58:14 AM
Thank you ladiko  ;D, its nice to see the ball rolling, i have fabnos working on italian so we'll have 2 more soon. Just a side not, you don't have to translate the part in {{comment| Part}} That is more for myself so i can remember where all these variables are used.

I have tested the file, seems to work good :), is there a short word for 'Go' so the button fits? Maybe a universal character like '>' is required for that hmm.

I will post the vars that need to be changed due to restricted string area. If you cannot make them shorter i'll just use the english version. I'll grab some screens of the pages for you so you can see how much you need to remove, ignore the ?? in the strings i just don't have your language on the computer.

lv_home=
lv_go= (this one may be removed for universal search button '>')
lv_upload=
lv_current=
lv_root=
lv_closeTransfers=
lv_openTransfers=

Other than that its perfect!

ladiko, I reviewed your de-de file. I only made a few small changes, an excellent translation! Of course I left your copyright in place.  ;D

@TSG

I'm actually attaching two files here. The file de_de_formal.txt is the reviewed ladiko translation with formal honorifics, and the de_de_casual.txt is the same with casual honorifics. This is the biggest problem with German: you need two different translations depending on the situation.

Edit: Just saw the problem with the umlauts. I'll try looking into that.

Post by: TSG on January 28, 2008, 08:50:16 AM
Is it possible to have just one german translation? That everyone will understand? Also the problem with those strings being too long is still apparent in both files.

Go (lv_go) is now a default '>' so we wont get a line break happening there.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: MarkV on January 28, 2008, 08:56:15 AM
If you only want one translation, go with the formal one.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: TSG on January 28, 2008, 09:00:08 AM
Can the long strings be shortened, you can use a different terminology if needed, From Root Directory and From Current Directory can be said as Top Level, Current Level if that makes it shorter
also close transfers and open transfers is still too big, other than that we are getting there!

Whats a another word for Gesamt cause with larger numbers that will cause errors.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: MarkV on January 28, 2008, 09:05:19 AM
I will look into that.

edit: Just a little experiment. Please replace one 'ü' in the file with the hex C3 BC - does it show up in the browser correctly?

TSG, you could help us by providing the max possible string lengths.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: ladiko on January 28, 2008, 09:34:10 AM
what encoding do you use in down under? my browser is using western (ISO 8859-1). SilentPliz should also see german umlauts like i can see french é è á à â ô ç and other special letters from all over europe etc.

and ure sure the template contains
Code: [Select]
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> ?

"Go" could be "Go" or "OK" in german. Both are common words for people under 40/50 - and i think people above this age are not the biggest target group for hfs ( sorry if i blame someone! >.< ).

Close transfers = Schließe Transfers ?
Open transfers ~ Show Transfers = Zeige Transfers ?
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: MarkV on January 28, 2008, 09:41:05 AM
I've replaced Übertragungen with Transfers, should be shorter.

Gesamte Objekte -> Alle Objekte
Gesamte Größe -> Ges. Größe
lv_root=Vom Hauptordner
lv_current=Von diesem Ordner
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: TSG on January 28, 2008, 09:47:57 AM
I specifically left out some strings, i might add lv_secs, but i consider it like GB and KB. I think i might just use Go in the button and leave it, its a fairly universal term. and if it isn't they'll get the general idea. Also i give you the option to change the charset in the language file. I did that mainly for the Asian languages cause UTF-8 should handle most other languages fine.

I will try those strings and your language file now.

To answer MarkV ascii should work fine.

lol i have emails and posts coming out of everywhere now lol.

So far we have, french(untested), german(almost), italian(untested). I will finish german before moving on to the others.

lv_root=Vom Hauptordner
lv_current=Von diesem Ordner

these are perfect, will change the others now and test.

Gesamte Objekte -> Alle Objekte
Gesamte Größe -> Ges. Größe

So i can use Ges. in place of Gesamte?

Also what about the string for Upload Files/Dateien hochladen or maybe just Dateien but maybe there is a context problem.
Finally the word for Home? Ladiko used the url, it cant be so.

This is a french translation.

Everything should be OK (I hope).

Forget the previous one .Txt
Here's the latest version:
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: MarkV on January 28, 2008, 10:32:22 AM
Yes, Ges. is just an abbreviation for Gesamte, in lack of a better word lol.

What is the problem with Upload Files/Dateien hochladen exactly?
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: parade on January 28, 2008, 11:20:19 AM
"Go" could be "Go" or "OK" in german. Both are common words for people under 40/50 - and i think people above this age are not the biggest target group for hfs ( sorry if i blame someone! >.< ).
In fact you are. ;)
I use HFS in a closed group and there is no one younger than 50.

But in fact "Go" isn't really a problem for anybody in Germany.
Alternatives would be: "Start" or "Los"

You always have to decide wether you want to really translate everything literally or just catch the meaning and so make a better translation.
I did some german translations for me some weeks ago and for instance decided to just add some ballon tips with more understandable German in cases of short not so clear translations.

Another thing is shoutbox. Every "pc-freak" knows what a shoubox is. A lot of other persons don't know. It's not so much a question of translation but more a question of knowing. I noticed that some people saw this on my site, but hey did not know what really happens, if they write something. Somebody asked me, wether I get an email with his writing.
So I translated it to "Mitteilungsbrett" and I think everybody in Germnay knows the meaning and the functionality of this.

Dateien hochladen is too long for the buttons. I am working with GE now he speaks the language.

Dateien hochladen is too long for the buttons.

"Hochladen" would be enough. There is no need to add "Dateien".

I would like to know if it is a problem of long strings or another, because I already tried to do shorter. And even shorter seems difficult.

PS: One proposition.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: TSG on January 28, 2008, 01:53:25 PM
Hmm it is better, but...

Fermer les Transferts (Can it go any smaller, you managed to get the open transfers to fit!)

Serveur Actif depuis (What is word for Uptime, it will work? or not?)

Horloge

Ok to solve this I put a break in the server uptime string, and Horloge i changed to Time, all there is to fix is the Open Transfers translation.

So far, English, German, Dutch, French(One problem), Italian(Fine, needs ascii though almost complete).
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: SilentPliz on January 28, 2008, 02:18:01 PM
Sorry, I was wrong to bar "Fermer les Transferts."
Put just "Transferts" or "Ferme Transferts" is valid.

There is no equivalent in a single word for "Uptime" in french, but if you leave it in English, I am confident that nobody will die. ;)

Yayy, yes I am happy that this much can be translated, quote rejetto "english is one of the shortest latin-germanic languages" so i am really happy we can get this far :)

All that is left now is Italian until further languages are submitted, I hope to get Spanish, Russian and Chinese aswell. Chinese will have the challenge of Charset but i think it will be fine with my charset variable. Spanish is about the same as english in length, just one special char, and Russian is just a charset thing too i think.

Italian is actually very well done, thanks to fabnos who is replying to my emails. Just have to expand the file information divs (the ones under the file name) and all should be good :)

I have added it.

Working on Italian, the biggest problem is Chiudi trasferimenti for Close Transfers, for now they will stay english. Just to say it is complete.

French complete :)

Italian complete :)

huuh "Mitteilungsbrett" reminds me of "Mutterbrett" for "motherboard" :D but ok there is nothing better ...

i dont like the style of Datei(en) or file(s) - i would alwas use the plural if's not a sentence.
files: 1 or files: 0 and Dateien: 1 pleases me.

I confound "check if" with "checks if" so it should be
lv_checkButton=Überprüfe ob dieses Template auf dem neuesten Stand ist!

age = Alter or Dateidatum or Dateizeit?
or maybe you mean changed or created? this would be Geändert and Erstellt

where is the string "Okjekte" from - it's on the screenshot, but i can't find it in the language file?

i would vote for MarkV and/or parade to be also named in the language file if they want cause four or six eyes see more than two and sometimes i am not accessible and if there is a problem that should be solved they can react faster?!?

@parade: Entschuldige die Aussage über die Zielgruppe, hatte auch schon die Vermutung, dass sowas kommt und ich voll ins Fettnäpfchen trete :-)

"Los" dont please for as translation for "Go" but "Start" looks good. I also vote for "Hochladen" for "Upload files" like parade told.

translating "root directory" creates pain in my eyes ::)

GE and I were just discussing a case of irony, with small work this template can look like Terayon and ToG  :-[ I am torn between pouring everything into one and having many themes, or updating terayon and tog seperately as usual... Thankyou for your help.

There is a few strings that will need to be shortened or left English -
lv_transfers=(can this be shortened to a single word? "transfers" maybe)
lv_upload=(can this be shortened to a single word? "upload" maybe)
lv_check=(can this be shortened to a single word? "updates" maybe)
lv_openTransfers=(can this be shortened to a single word? "transfers" maybe)
lv_closeTransfers=(if there isn't a shorter i will leave the English version, this is only seen by non-js users)

Can you provide a shorter string value for the statistic module values. If not in iso it is still decent.

It seems that Russian can be displayed as UTF-8 if the language file is written and saved properly... For some reason it is in strange characters. Take a look at this russian site that uses both under UTF-8 http://g8russia.ru/ and try to give me a language.txt file that will work in this way. Maybe submit the .txt as a UTF-8. In notepad you can save as then select the character encoding, cause i am certain that if the russian characters are displayed correctly in notepad, they'll be fine with UTF-8.

I used my browser as a converter to convert the text to true chars, and this is what i ended up with displaying UTF-8, can you confirm my 3rd screenshot is correct characters?

I learned russian in school, but dont know much anymore. the 2nd version koi8 looks ok for me, but the capitals are lower case and the rest is upper case.

the 3rd version has a lot of letters i've never seen in russian language --> http://freestylelanguage.com/files/russian-alphabet.jpg
you dont find a " j " in the russian alphabet and a russian " u " looks like " у " but not like the one in the screenshot.

Ye I need someone to redo it in normal characters in a UTF-8 .txt file. That should fix it. Cause I can display the chars fine with UTF-8 if the file is saved properly. I see just a mess in the current Russian language file which isn't compatible with UTF-8.

Yes this one is much better :)

There is just one last problem with the statistics module.

lv_uptime=Время работы сервера
lv_inbound=Входящий трафик
lv_outbound=Исходящий трафик
lv_totalHits=Количество запросов

Can these become shorter....

Other than them I just need the new vars which i'm still finalising converted, there is only like 7 or so, i am going to post them on the forum.

Nice work, thought Russian was going to be a lot harder than that to implement.

EDIT: I just noticed Sort by wasn't a language var, this will be added to the new vars.

All I need now is Chinese and we have covered the main languages I've seen on the forum, I think its a pretty impressive language archive, if anyone wants to post any language when the template has been released, post them here on the forum, and they will be included with the next build.

But for now I must sleep. I will check the forum when I wake.

All the text files are now UTF-8 so we don't need to worry about using ascii for special chars. I just need rejetto to fix a bug for the text files HFS makes, otherwise a username entered with special chars will get ??etc??.

i havent checked your online transation. in several cases of translating with a machine the declination and conjugation is not the best.

but i'm not without fail, too - it shoud be:
lv_currentBuild=derzeitige Version [or "momentane Version" or"jetzige Version" in this sequence]

if you need a shorter string, there is also the way to say it this way:
your version: 0.99
latest version: 1.00
"your version" would be formal "Ihre Version" and informal "Deine Version"

Automatic translation is a disaster.  (ex: In french a "chèque" is only used for purchase. ;D )

In french_fr:

Excellent translation!

I can only suggest that you find a smaller word for,
lv_uptime=
lv_totalSize=
It may cause a line break at current length.

I will leave them as they are if you don't reply before I release 5 tonight.

Also ALL LANGUAGES, I need a value for:
lv_homepage=Homepage

If Homepage is the best word even tho its English just leave it.

I need a translation for:
lv_processing=Processing...
^ the shoutbox processes the information put in the form and saves it to the folder.

lv_smiley=Smiley

It is for the new shoutbox.

Thanks :D
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: parade on March 06, 2008, 09:45:18 AM
lv_processing=Processing...

What is the shoutbox doing when you want to say "Processing ..."?
I am asking because a word translation may not quite fit the meaning.
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: TSG on March 06, 2008, 10:07:17 AM
The new shoutbox uses a different folder to 'process' the post, instead of doing it in the same folder. This fixes the double post bug. Basically. You enter the information in the form, it submits form data to HFS, then the form sends you to process_post, where it creates the actual post text files, then after 1sec you are sent back to display_post, which is where you started. Except now there is a new post :). This fixes the post duplication bug.
Try not to make this a huge long word, if so make a 2 word translation.

I added lv_smiley=Smiley for a title value when you hover on the message input field, so people know the valid smiley inputs. They are mostly MSN standard smiley inputs.

lv_processing=Traitement...
lv_smiley=Smiley
Title: Re: RAWR-Designs Translations
Post by: parade on March 06, 2008, 01:45:27 PM
In German:

lv_processing=Bitte warten ...

That is not a translation and means "Please wait a moment" in English.
Any real word transalation of "processing" sounds odd to me.

lv_smiley=Smiley
(same as in English)

Thank you, yes just translate to what sounds best in your language. Please wait... is a perfectly good translation for what is happening.

I updated french last night, I will update these when I get home from university. I may squeeze some time in on the weekend to re-write Terayon for GE. Cause he is a lazy sod :P nah kidding he is working on TPGen, I also have a friend of mine integrating flv to the flash player. Also Terayon will be better using the RAWR-Template base code, it only needs minor adjustments. You have to remember that RAWR-Template is a re-written hybrid. So Terayon will also be available in 9 languages soon :)

EDIT: Updated the current build archives 12/3/08.

Hey guys, if I would write in English, you wouldnt understand more than a half. I have a problem: If I use the MP3 Player and cancel the playback and play another file etc. this works for about 2 or 3 files and then it stops working. then i use another login name and i can repeat the cycle etc.

Cause i thought the player crashed, i had the idea to try another login name. could somebody help me? did i forget or didnt read something?

Greets Frank
was passiert wenn du dich gar nicht einloggst? kannst ja testweise einen ordner unsichtbar ohne benuter freigeben.
ich hatte in dem fall eigentlich nie probleme.

what happens if u try it without a login name? you could use a hidden folder without user permissions.
in this case i had never problems.

Nein sind verschiedene Lieder, wenn ich bei der Vorschau, immer das ganze lied anhöre, macht er keine probleme, nur wenn ich in eins reinhöre ein nächstes öffne dann passiert das ganze. Kann es vielleicht am programm selbst liegen? das ich irgendwo was falsch eingestellt habe? Ich weis selbst nicht mehr weiter...

i would like the results fo a form on my website to come to me as email - so using formail which is just about set up is fine, but my problem is i also want a copy of the submitted detaiols to be held in a folder/file/database or whatever is the easiest way to do it and am hitting a brick wall, i know you clever users will do it in your sleep but i am a web designer not a programmer which i think is a different job - i am a small startup and if i can get enough clients and can offer this as a service to the website then will get more business, i am disabled at the moment but hope to get better with treatment (but can build any enjoy websites and am good)  this is the only way i can try to have a job as employers just dont want to touch you when you  mention anything like that - also am 40 so can someone help me with this battle against the system when i get busy i will employ someone to do this . but at the moment funds are none existent. it could probably be one of you guys to work on each project with me to help with the requests clients give which get a bit more obscure as they hear about what the web can do so they want everything and the kithchen sink.
kind regards spencer  my email is  spencer@intereasy.co.uk if you want to mail me

you need something like

{.if| {. {.postvar|action.} = send .} |{:
{.append|filename|
name={.postvar|myname.}
text={.postvar|mytext.}
/append.}
:}.}
where 'myname' and 'mytext' are name of the fields, like in <input name='myname'>
This if you are using a <form method='post'> and an  <input type='submit' name='action' value='send'>

i didn't test it

You need to explain a bit more clearly, if the text is scrambled it may be because the language file is not in UTF-8 or Unicode. Sometimes special characters need to be done in the ascii equivalent for HFS to be able to read it.
