HFS ~ HTTP File Server / HFS and 100% CPU

When doing a local upload, is it normal for HFS to use 100% CPU resources until the transfer finishes making the system sluggish and unresponsive until the process is done?    And what can be done about it?

If I'm understanding you correctly, all you have to do in HFS is highlight the folder with your mouse and right click then use the Restrict access option to select who you want to see the folder.  If they aren't selected, they won't see the folder.  It will be hidden to them.  There is also a hide option that you could use for folders and files.

I just don't understand it???

I have run most of the alpha versions and all of the beta versions and (knock on wood) I have yet to get an access violation or any other error pertaining to HFS.  Then there are others, like above,  that have these problems.  I'm beginning to wonder if they have something to do with the systems they are being run on?

Well then it would be the max upload speed of his connection.  Does your friend have the same upload speed  of 1 mbit as you?

Have an matey there upload a file to me on HFS (he's on 10 mbit)

i can down load with 4 mbit  but HFS just accepted max 198 kb/s

mostly it run  on about 150-160 kb/s    

What is the max speed for HFS...?

The max HFS server speed is dependant on the upload speed of your connection.  If you don't know what that is, contact your ISP.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Auto removing virtual folders that do not exist anymore?

Just highlight the non-existant HFS virtual folder or virtual subfolder or even certain files within these folders with your mouse and then you can right click and select remove or just press your DEL key.  HFS doesn't automatically remove dead folders, which I think is the way it should be, as then you have complete control.

I know this question may have been asked many times before but....
I have just installed version 2.0 beta17 on my machine running XP sp2
I am on a 1mb cable line through my lan card.
The graph at the top displays top speed as 7.00kbs? when i press the browse button to see my files.
What sort of speed ahould I be expecting? as my friends who have tried it say it's very slow.

The graph's top speed will increase as your server gets traffic and files are being transfered.  I suspect you are referring to your download speed limit when you say a 1 mb cable line.  It's your maximum "upload" speed that is being used not your 1mb cable line  when a person downloads a file from you.  Most standard cable/dsl connections have a higher download speed with a lower upload speed.  If you don't know what your max upload speed is, contact your ISP.  Also your maximum upload bandwidth is "shared" with all incoming connections until it is used up.

Also is it necessary/advisable to open any specific ports in my settings.
I am currently using the default port 80 as when I change this people cant connect?

If you change your port from the default port 80, you have to let people know what port you are using otherwise they won't be able to connect.

(example:  h*tp://123.456.789.0:10000 <-- the 10000 is the port)
