Actually I don't think it's from the number os folders/files since I use roughly 4000+ also and have no such behaviour from the server (2.5TB Hard Drive + 3TB External Hard Drive). When you say the server freezes and reaches 100mb of RAM does the processor also pike up to 100% (50% in case of duo, 25% in case of quad)?

In order to confirm it's a scale problem try only loading 2000 folders in your HFS instead of the 7000 and see how the server reacts, afterwards gradually add 500 more and test until it starts freezing up again. If so then rejetto's thought is right.

Get HFS.exe next to the template folder (yes the template folder that should be in the HFS afterwards), plus verify that there is no template folder in the HFS tree before you load the template *.tpl file, it works for me.

The 'create folder' in the admin panel has some restrictions. The created folder will only appear in your html page if it's created within a real folder that is already added in the HFS tree (although not restricted just to the lower level, but any lower levels). I will try to improve this later on.

Do note that mb=/=MB, in the end the lower speed is the one that sets how fast the downloads are made. Since your upload speed is the lowest 2mb=~256KBps at max (and hipotectical, signals aren't always 100%) and maybe due to internet traffic (internet lines are used by more than just one people at once in an area) speeds generally decrease especially during daylight in high populational areas.

Haven't had any problems what so ever for the last betas for the past 2 or 3 months, being downloaded over 3TB. So i guess we're finally in a safe zone?

I believe HFS opens your default browser, so when you open another browser that's not your default one there should popup a window asking if you want it to be your default one from then on.

Glad to help, beware that if you are sharing over a wireless network with such big speeds, although traffic is internal it can slow down internet speed due to the APs capability (data uses the same cables to travel to your pc with both intranet and internet).

This is what i've experienced so far (I also serve about 200 people): When you limit the number of simultaneous downloads, the first person to send a request uppon a file completion gets the spot, but if someone loses the connection to the server and meanwhile someone sends a request, that will also make them steal the spot (remeber download managers send requests every so often when trying to connect to the server). Speed wise, technically seeding 100 people at the same time is faster in the sense that you get more MBs sent overtime (from the servers point of view), but this will slow down the downloading process individually for users (obvious). It's a matter of if seeding too many people at the same time takes the users too much of their time to download, then cutback at the number of simultaneous downloads allowed. LAN wise speeds can go pretty high up so no need to limit, although I find that when 15+ people are downloading at the same time the use of possible bandwidth will probably hit 100%, in my case 8MB/s (LAN).

Try updating from 2.2 to 2.3beta http://www.dovedove.it/hfs/hfs232.exe. This will allow you to use other templates available correctly and i believe it has a more advanced "archive method" (a.k.a folder as 1 file). Secondly templates are written in XHTML, CSS and JAVA (default is only XHTML), and so it uses smart coding to minimize image/design downloading by the users from the server (resulting in less bandwidth wasted in page loading), so it cannot be edited in such programs as u've mentioned.

PS. When I mentioned XHTML, JAVA and CSS I didn't want to imply those were your only options, but the currently used ones in templates available.

This has already been sugested, but would it be possible to add a function to HFS to allow banned users (sometimes i have to ban them due to download manager bugs, not their fault) to access a certain directory as in "/template/" in the RAWR templates so that the template can still be viewed by them and not just a scrambled code with the reason for the ban?
