hfs not responding..thinking..when ya do a search

I use the rawr template because it has a search function on it.
with beta build 253 i notice when I type something to search it sits there forever.
the page says loading.
i go to hfs and it says not responding.
after about 30 sec, it then lets me kick al connections, which say thinking..
but it never displays the search results.

for example i go into a folder that has 257 files in it
and one of the files is named sim city
i search for sim, but it never displays results..HFS says thinking on IP address connection, in window top bar says not responding and after a bit that goes away but the web page saying loading and never displays results.

is it a problem with HFS or the rawr template?

is the CPU or hard disk working very hard while "thinking" ?
maybe the search is too much wide.
consider HFS does not index anything, it makes real time search.

I thought that migh tbe the case but the folder only has 257 files in it one of which is sim city.ipa
so I put sim city in the search hit enter
I waited and wait but search result never comes causes hfs to says not responding
it seems users can crash my hfs site with a simple search command
the expected result is hfs be quick or stop searching after a bit

so i ran another test, i searched inside a folder that had only 4 files
one of them reds lake tahoe.jpg
i search for "lake tahoe" and bam HFS locks up. it says not responding.
i check resources its using very little cpu resource about 2 to 5%

problem is now no one can browse HFS, and on my server HFS has gone white, i cant see whats its doing
sometimes it'll return to normal other times it just stays like that until it finishes xffering a file in process.

i'd have to say this is pretty serious problem or bug in HFS, a simple search prevents ppl from accessing the site for a short amount of time

i'm only person on the HFS and if i search it stops ppl from accessing it and returns to normal after 3 to 5 min.

after more testing I can confirm the problem is related to using RAWR template
using rawr template and doing a search will crash HFS on my system
however i use the Vanilla, plain ol HFS template that HFS generates, I use the search function and it finds results and does nto lock up HFS.
so using the basic template made by HFS does in deed work.

the problem is rawr. shame i really  like the look and feel of HFS plus all the details it gives on the side panel.

so it would seem RAWR needs to update their template for your beta builds as you rev new version because clearly something is not compatible, not to mention I also get the access denied error message when using rawr template v0.1.2

so anyone using this tempalte be warned it has issues with beta build 25x

however i found another bug
if I use the vanilla HFS template. the one made by hfs, on far right there is a css menu, last option is FILE List
if I click on file list it causes HFS to do something forever and does not return any listing at all.
i was expecting it to either stop if listing too big or return a list after a few seconds but it sat there for over 5min with nothing returned.

you see user who access my site can do malicious things to bog it down.
doing a file list won't actually crash HFS but does cause it to crash the particular session user is on, no error messages are returned so user thinks website has crashed which is not the case, if he closes webpage and starts over again, it loads fine. as long as no one does File list, everything will be ok
i edited the template and removed the File list option from the CSS menu drop down so users can't do bad things.

further testing...when user does a file listing it makes the page just sit there and think, if ya do refresh or click on breadcumbs or a folder, it seems to snap out of it.
so in essence it does not really crash HFS, its just looks odd because the webpage sits there saying "loading" when in fact its doing nothing and returns nothing if u let it sit and do its think.

its like an empty command that does nothing and returns no results. no matter what folder in, same odd result.


doing a search seems quick no problems there but doing a file list is bad apparently

since then I've edited that command in the template so users cant abuse it.

1. did this problem appear only lately?
if you think it's about a recent HFS update, you may try running an older beta of HFS to understand when it was introduced.
in case, report to me, so i can use this information.

2. the file list is as heavy as the search, if not more (since it does not filter, but lists all).
so the problems about search and list may be related.

here is what it says in the log

that line means indeed "harvesting in the whole virtual file system".
this will bang your disk for the whole time it takes, unless you have networked resources listed, for which it takes long without local disk activity.

3. i had a quick look at RAWR template, and (to me at least) by default it searches through the whole file system.
doesn't matter if i'm in a specific folder.
