HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: Strange Log Entries
« on: March 24, 2005, 12:28:17 PM »
From what I know, the computer trying to contact you is infected with some sort of worm/virus. This worm is trying to exploit a known vulnerability of Windows/IIS to get access to your machine. TMK, HFS has no (known) vulnerability ATM, so sit back and relax.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Re: HFS sound effects ?

I've just moticed that HFS has sound-effects  8O when it is a background window and "signals" by blinking the minimized window . Can those be disabled , and/or - re-defined as some a user .wav file ?

You can disable it by unchecking

Menu - Flash Taskbutton - Also beep, and choose Menu - Flash Taskbutton - Never

You have to switch to 'Expert Mode' first (beta21)
There is no way to customize a sound (yet), I think? :?:

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / 2.0 coming...

and when i try use APATCHE - its everything OK (4 500 047 900 Bytes)

It does NOT work, even with Apache...
I run Apache 2.0.53 on my machine, aside from HFS (as HFS can't do Perl/CGI yet). Tested with a file of 4500000000 Bytes (ca. 4,19GB):

- IE 6.0SP2: 195MB  8O
- Mozilla Firefox 1.01: 200227KB  :?
- Metaproducts Download Express: 4500000000 bytes

Download Express did work, the others not.

Now HFS tests:

- IE 6.0SP2: 195MB
- Firefox: 200227KB
- Download Express: DE does not work with HFS...

Why DE doesn't work with HFS? Apache works great.
HFS log says 'Connected', then 'Disconnected', '166760 bytes sent.'. DE shows 'aborted'. Hm. :(

BTW download is http://www.metaproducts.com/download/desetup.exe

@rejetto: The tooltips in HFS show the correct filesize now. I don't know why they were wrong before, maybe it was NT4... Anyway, no more NT4, no more complaints...

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / multilanguage tpl
« on: March 08, 2005, 10:42:02 PM »
No, no such option yet. But a good idea...
The browser defines the preferred language in the HTTP header.
Code: [Select]
Accept-Language: de-de,de;q=0.8,en-us;q=0.5,en;q=0.3 HFS should be able to read this info and use the corresponding template. Default should be the english template.

Everything else / phpBB 2.0.13

phpBB Group announces the release of phpBB 2.0.13, the "Beware of the furries" edition. This release addresses two recent security exploits, one of them critical. They were reported a few days after .12 was released and no one is more annoyed than us, having to release a new version in such a short period of time.
Fortunately both fixes are easy and in each case just one line needs to be edited.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / 2.0 coming...

Hi,

It whuld be good to have possibility to make multilangual templates (or it is implemented somehow allready?).

You mean the HTML template used in HFS? You can edit it yourself.
1. Switch to Expert mode (only beta21+)
2. Other options - Edit HTML Template
3. Search for the text and customize/translate
4. If you succeed, it would be nice to share it in this forum... in the template section  B)

If you mean the program itself - no, you would have to translate the sourcecode and recompile.

@rejetto: As the sourcecode is free - I could translate it to german probably, but I have no Delphi. Can we send the translated source zip back to you and you compile it? Of course we have to wait for the final to do that. (At the moment it's quiet, but who knows   )

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Favicon

Maybe your browser cached the old one. Empty your browser cache and try again. That should work...

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Favicon
« on: March 02, 2005, 05:06:55 PM »
Add your custom favicon to the root of the VFS and name it favicon.ico. You can hide it if you want.
Browsers always search for /favicon.ico and display it. If you don't know how to create one, search the web.

:?: So, why not install the XP pro ? both home & pro cost almost the same ...

No, not here in good ol' Germany. XP Pro costs twice as much as XP Home...  >:(

Update: the shares' right management work if you boot in failsafe mode with network enabled. Very strange. :?: (The feature I mean is called 'Simple file sharing' I think)

Anyway, as it is OT, I'll stop now...

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / HFS and 100% CPU

to share :)
google: scesp4i

Although this program brings back the 'Security' tab for folders, I can not restrict use of my fileshares.
In WinXP Pro, I can set 'Max No. of users', access rights... I test it a little further and post if I found something.

No one will use HFS in local LAN

You are wrong, I use it for LAN with Gigabit Ethernet, so speed issues are important...

What is so bad with M$'s Windows' HD resource sharing ? Why don;t you use that  ?

Since M$ decided to take rights management out of XP Home, there are only 2 choices: To share or not to share... :?
Some computers here even have shares disabled for security... HFS works regardless of that fact.

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / edit resource
« on: February 22, 2005, 11:59:08 PM »
The 'Edit resource...' works very well for folders. It does not work for files, as  you can only pick folders. I can't enter/change the filename, and the filename gets stripped.

Entries for filenames get DESTROYED when using this function with files... :(

edit: I tested some more with WinXP and found out what's going on here:

With WinXP, there's no problem at all! The dialog pops up and looks like this:

[edit: picture link removed]

But with NT Workstation, it looks very different.

[edit: picture link removed]

As you see, no option for picking files here. To my knowledge, this was introduced in Windows 2000, so it works only there... Too bad. :(

MarkV

edit: removed picture links, speeds up the page loading...
       (problem is solved anyway...)

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / 2.0 coming...

Hi!

And i think autoload last vfs and autosave settings should be default options if they are not now.

TGeRi

PS: if u have a "clean" hfs. You satart is. Make the vritual file system of yours and exit i think nothing asks for you if you want to save this. It is ok if you save vfs the with autoload and autosave it will be ok but not for the first time. I hope everyone can understand my problem.

Confirmed. It asks you: Quit? If you say Yes, that's it...
There should be a warning like: "VFS has not been saved, really quit?"

edit: Through testing with VFS I found another serious issue:
If Autosave VFS is checked, and you clear the VFS and set up another, at shutdown the old is overwritten. It should prompt for another name if you cleared it and set up a new but forgot to save under new name. I just lost my whole VFS because of that!  8O

HFS ~ HTTP File Server / Experts only
« on: February 22, 2005, 03:14:35 AM »
OK lets start. Feel free to add/remove items to/from the list, at least it's only my 2 cents...

from Other options:
-Send HFS identifier
-Persistent connections
-Specific HTML for download managers
-MIME types (if you have good defaults)
-Compressed browsing
-Modal dialog for options

from Start/Exit:
-Find external address on startup

from Virtual File System
-List files with <system> attribute

from Limits:
(maybe the one causing trouble?)

from IP-Address:
-Custom...
-Don't include port in URL

from URL-encode:
-I would hide this section completely, no need with modern browsers...

OK that's it, at least for now.  B)
