Title: 500 - This account is missing it's root file folder
Post by: JeremyB796 on July 30, 2014, 09:56:48 PM
I had launched FHFS and I got a message stating that it "Could not locate the root user files folder". (I honestly have no clue what I did...I have FHFS on it's own drive)

The user accounts are still listed in the gui, I just don't know how to set the folder back correctly.

thanks for any help (I looked, chances are I'll break more than I'll fix)

raybob would be of better help, but review this forum post first:

http://www.rejetto.com/forum/fhfs/way-to-change-default-url-root/msg1059177/#msg1059177

since you've stated that you have fhfs on a separate drive,

i'm almost willing to bet that you didn't specify the users to be on that drive(so it is defaulting to "c:///etc...") and/or that drive path that you have set was not set to be the same drive letter at each usb insertion/startup...

It had worked previously- for months.
It just decided to not work...I guess?

I can't really explain, last time I had something odd happen I simply over-wrote the install and had to have all the accounts re-registered.

I guess I'll move it to my C drive, it would make more sense (was just trying to avoid any permission issues with throwing things into the program files folder, since windows 8 seems to hate me more than 7 did)

So I reinstalled FHFS.
While the issue is technically gone, all the user account info is gone.

Okay- I simply copied the hfs.ini from the old install to the new one.

got a barrage of filezilla errors and other various messages and all the users popped up.

Thank you, I was hoping to avoid having to reinstall (as now I have to set otherthings up again) but this seems to work.
I'm going to keep the old install (just not use it) just in case there is a way to fix without the need to redo everything..

thank you.

That error only appears (as far as I know) when you're trying to log on and it can't find the folder containing everything for that account.  You may have accidentally moved it, or deleted it, or FHFS might not have permission to access it.  Are you sure you didn't move/delete anything before the error started?

Also is the error for just one account or for everyone?

Yes, I am sure. The folder has been on the same drive ever since I installed FHFS.

Well... for one reason or another it can't be accessed.  From there I can't really tell you why.

I don't know either.
reinstalling FHFS has seemed to fix it, It's almost as if FHFS had "forgotten" where the folder was (for lack of a better term)

Either way, My problem seems to be fixed- thank you.

okay, the issue doesn't seem to be quite fixed-

new users seem to get a 500 error...but now preregistered users can log in...
not sure if it's still the same issue, or if it is caused by something else.

okay, nevermind-

I had left email verification on and that caused it.

I'm trying to get that working right now
I get an "Email.exe[5096]: ERROR => ERROR => SMTP-AUTH: Authentication to localhost:4650 failed." message when I try to send a test email...
I actually had to use their IP instead of smtp.gmail.com for some odd reason to get around a previous issue.

I'm not sure if that's caused by Stunnel not starting with the server (I have to start it manually, and I also edited the conf to match the settings in FHFS/installvars)
The log looks like this if that means anything:

2014.08.14 18:27:04 LOG5[5816]: Configuration successful

Okay, I set my modem to bridge and put ddwrt on my router (because the port forwarding was crap) and set my router's ddns up
SSL works now, but email still doesn't...

And I set the launcher to run as admin (forgot to do that)

I just noticed something.  I think 2.1.0 has a bug where it responds with "500 - This account..." if you try logging in with a user that doesn't exist at all.  Not sure why that happens.

Hey Raybob, I -just- had this exact problem. My server was offline so I logged into the box, shut down the whole GUI and then started it back up. The user list on the left cleared itself out and then I got the missing folders errors, and now all my users are gone :/ It's been working perfectly for a couple months and nobody gets on this box but me and I haven't logged into it directly for weeks... Anything I can provide that can help?

Edit: Sorry, opened my own thread here http://www.rejetto.com/forum/fhfs/all-users-suddenly-missing!/msg1061590/

ok, so it sounds that there is a temp file that doesn't fully write the users... easily could be a permissions issue on files....

you will have to start over / or atleast delte the user data folder, or atempt to recreate them.....

make sure you have read and write permisions...
as explaind here with more setup detials:
