I have a HFS file server up, love it.. amazing.. runs through port 80 so I can even access it from work which has everything closed by 80, 8080 and 443. so Rejetto thank you very much.. I know you get that alot, but seriously thank you.

Regardless, I did do a search and it said that mpg files were meant for streaming, so they should right when brought up via WMP in file, open url however that did not work.

Since most of the files are in AVI format i'd like to know if its possible to watch them as they are downloading. I used VLC and was put in the URL, it said the AVI file was broken and it wouldnt have a record of where how far the video was in runtime but that doesnt bother me.  I used mms:// and put the .avi file in but that only works for mp3 files.

Since wmp 10/11 are at work, i'd like to try to get answered based around that but ideas are always welcome. Thanks

and once again Rejetto, excelent work...

-Kurt

Hey, just to clarify the avi's did play with VLC just by putting the url into the open with equivelent for vlc, but i'm looking for a windows media player way if that is indeed possible.

I dont know much in this area but ill give it a try.
Im not sure but when ever I try to play avi's with windows media player they never work, I get audio but no picture. I think that you may have to install codecs into windows media player. I suggest to keep using VLC there is a portable version avaliable that will run off of a usb key(the site also says cd but I have tested it) or any other other portable memory with out leaving anything behind on the computer.

Its good that you got the avi to stream with vlc, I didnt think you could because by memory you have to download the end of the file first or you'll get the avi file broken message that you mentioned before. This is because the information regarding how long it is and some other important info are saved at the end of the file.

As long as it works though, that is the main thing ;)

Yea you do need codecs, if sound isnt working get a ac3 filter from free-codecs, that and xvid play just about anything standard, but again, i'd like to do this through windows media player. if need be, flash drive is not a bad idea.

Thanks foggy,

Anyone, other ideas?

i remember a lot of player demanding for the last bytes of the AVI to play.
but truth is that a smart player can even ask for the last bytes, using the "resume" feature, without downloding the file before.
so, no excuses, it's a matter of being a good player.

i don't use WMP so i have no suggestion, sorry.

We tried to use the DivX web player in the ToG template, but i think the DivX player has been DRM'd to only work with stage6 .divx files, it no longer works with hfs. So it was removed from the template...

lol, well if it works then go for it, i was getting strange errors like, 'This URL cannot be played' , 'This is not a DivX file' etc... even when embedding it into the template lol, maybe on these new builds of HFS... it was fine with 109.. then 110 it broke, and then now Giant Eagle is using 124 and it works. Interesting. I did however, get one of my old errors during testing... so i am still unsure if it is working 100%

I look forward to having the ability to play these filetypes over HFS... now to find a way of playing wmv, wma, mpg again... so much to do, so little time :o

I think we got this working in Thunderchicken of Glory template  by using a DivX plugin. You might want
to check out the ToG board (http://www.rejetto.com/forum/index.php?board=34.0). It's looking a bit bloated
these days, but all the features you could want in a template are there.

Prawned :)

No, we don't have DivX support yet, since the last release downloads have increased and the template has its own board, pay more attention Flynsarmy ;) If its not in the feature list, it doesn't exist.

If all goes well even the preview script will be improved in the next release using %sequential%, so hopefully the DivX player can be written from javascript properly.

Lets not get off topic here. If you are concerned about the level of bloatedness, post in the ToG board and get some discussion going.
